Senior Healthcare Architect / Interior Designer

Kansas City, MO

A growing, design-focused architecture and interiors practice is seeking a Senior Healthcare Architect / Interior Designer to join its healthcare team in the Kansas City area. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep healthcare experience, strong technical expertise, and a passion for creating environments that positively impact patient and caregiver experiences.

The firm offers a highly collaborative, relationship-driven culture where senior team members have visibility, influence, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on projects and client relationships alike.

Position Overview

This individual will play a key role in leading and delivering complex healthcare projects from programming and planning through construction administration. The role is highly client-facing and will involve close collaboration with leadership, consultants, engineers, and internal project teams.

The ideal candidate brings strong healthcare planning and technical expertise, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to lead project teams while building and maintaining long-term client relationships.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience within architecture and/or interior design • Significant healthcare project experience required, including acute care, outpatient, ambulatory, specialty clinics, and medical office facilities • Strong technical understanding of healthcare planning, building systems, life safety requirements, accessibility standards, and applicable codes/regulations • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships • Experience leading client meetings and coordinating multidisciplinary teams • Passion for healthcare-focused design and improving patient and staff experiences through thoughtful planning and design • High level of proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership abilities • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment • Willingness to travel occasionally for project and client-related responsibilities

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Architect or Registered Interior Designer preferred • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design • Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) preferred • LEED accreditation and/or sustainable design experience preferred • Experience navigating AHJ reviews, healthcare regulations, and complex project coordination • Proven ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative studio culture

  • Lead healthcare projects through all phases of design and construction • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and project teams • Participate in healthcare facility programming, space planning, and workflow analysis • Guide project teams through schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration • Coordinate project documentation and consultant integration • Collaborate with architects, interior designers, engineers, contractors, and consultants • Assist with project planning, scheduling, and milestone management • Conduct site visits, existing conditions assessments, and construction observations • Support quality control efforts and ensure technical excellence across project deliverables • Mentor and support junior team members within a collaborative environment
