Role Description
The Interior Designer is responsible fordeveloping and executing VIP aircraft interior designs from initial conceptthrough aircraft completion and delivery. This position provides in-housedesign expertise utilizing interior design software, technical drawingpractices, material knowledge, and classical design principles to developinterior solutions that meet customer expectations, production requirements,and applicable aircraft completion standards.
The Interior Designer works closely with the ChiefDesigner, Sales, Program Management, Engineering, Procurement, Production,vendors, and customers to develop design concepts, define materials andfinishes, produce technical design documentation, and support the successfulcompletion of assigned aircraft. This position is expected to workindependently on assigned design responsibilities while supporting the overalldesign direction established by the Chief Designer.
Essential Job Functions
• Support Sales and Program Management duringpre- and post-contract phases by providing configuration definition, materialspecifications, design research, and other design information required tosupport customer proposals and aircraft completion planning.
• Participate in customer and internal designreview activities with both internal and external customers.
• Support Sales and Program Management in thedevelopment of customer proposals, contracts, design concepts, and presentationmaterials.
• Read, interpret, and create aircraftmechanical and interior design drawings to support VIP aircraft completionprograms.
• Develop computer-generated drawings anddesign documentation supporting Sales, Engineering, and Production, interiorelevations, Design Control Drawings, and Detailed Design Definition Packages.
• Develop interior design concepts, materialschemes, and finish selections that align with customer requirements, approveddesign direction, aircraft configuration, and production capabilities.
• Apply knowledge of interior materials, softgoods, finishes, and material composition to support design decisions andensure materials are appropriate for aircraft application and applicable burntest requirements.
• Support aircraft completion activities frominduction through delivery, including finalizing design documentation based oncustomer approvals and incorporating approved design changes throughout thecompletion process.
• Define and maintain final materialspecifications, finishes, quantities, and supporting documentation based onapproved customer designs.
• Interface with vendors and suppliersregarding aircraft component definition, materials, finishes, and other designrequirements.
• Partner with Engineering and Production toresolve design and material-related issues and ensure design intent can beeffectively translated into production and aircraft installation.
• Maintain design documentation throughout theaircraft build to ensure the completed aircraft reflects the approved customerdesign.
• Support First Article Inspections and otherproduction quality activities to verify that completed components andinstallations conform to approved design requirements.
• Maintain and update the Material FinishDocument (MFD) and other applicable design documentation throughout theaircraft completion process.
• Develop and maintain strong workingrelationships with internal and external vendors to support design execution,material sourcing, and component development.
• Maintain the department's material andsample library, including customer-approved material samples, referencematerials, presentation boards, and design resources.
• Support customer presentations, photoshoots, reference materials, and development of ready-to-present designschemes.
• Remain current on aircraft interiormaterials, design trends, manufacturing capabilities, and applicable aircraftcompletion requirements.
• Provide guidance and technical support toAssociate Interior Designers on assigned projects and design activities.
• Support continuous improvement of designprocesses, documentation, material management, and design-to-productionworkflows.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education andExperience
• Associate's degree in Interior Design,Industrial Design, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience incorporate or VIP aircraft completions, interior design, product design, or aclosely related design environment.
• Demonstrated experience in product design,development, fabrication, and production environments.
• Proven proficiency with computer-aideddesign and drafting programs; AutoCAD proficiency required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of aircraft interiormaterials, soft goods, finishes, and material specifications.
• Working knowledge of aircraft mechanical andinterior drawings and the ability to interpret technical design documentation.
• General understanding of supply chainprocesses, vendor relationships, and material procurement.
Required Skills and Abilities
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Adobe CreativeSuite, and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, andOutlook.
• Strong understanding of interior designprinciples, color, materials, finishes, and design composition.
• Ability to develop cohesive material andfinish schemes for VIP aircraft interiors.
• Ability to translate customer concepts anddesign requirements into accurate technical drawings and productiondocumentation.
• Ability to read, interpret, and createaircraft mechanical and interior design drawings.
• Strong understanding of the relationshipbetween design intent, engineering requirements, manufacturing processes, andaircraft installation.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the abilityto interact effectively with customers, vendors, designers, engineers,production personnel, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate technical anddesign-related issues in an assertive, professional, and tactful manner.
