Summary: This position is responsible for achieving growth and profit objectives by appropriate risk selection, book management, business development and agency management.
What You'll Be Doing:
Underwriting - Select and price risks for profit and growth.
  • Select new risks based on department guidelines within delegated authority utilizing appropriate forms, pricing and reinsurance where needed. File documentation should reflect logical thought process.
  • Demonstrate understanding of risk exposure, classifications and price for exposure.
  • Refer viable risks outside authority once pre-underwritten demonstrating sound judgment, decision making and file documentation.
  • Possess knowledge of forms, coverage, rating plans, manuals and company position papers.
  • In conjunction with Underwriting leadership, serve as an active participant in the quality review process
  • In conjunction with Actuarial, implement pricing modeling and monitor performance to model. Assure underwriting actions align with the model by measuring and monitoring pricing by individual, territory and state.
  • Maintain department service standards and respond to producer needs.
  • Maintain technical proficiency
  • Ensure that new and renewal business fits Company strategy and policies and that the underwriting process and procedures are aligned.
  • Seek out new ways to improve the underwriting process.

Agency Management - execute agency management routines to build the business and gain relevance.
  • Develops and manages New Business pipeline to ensure a steady stream of business opportunities.
  • Manages the production, profitability and relationships with all agencies in assigned territory.

      1. Develop and execute annual success and territory plans and monitor agency performance.
      2. Monitors agency results and follows up with agency as to both growth/profitability and compliance with company initiatives, procedures, risk appetite and policies. Analyzes quality, volume, mix of business and profit for assigned producers. Identifies trends in submission activity and works to meet production targets as established. Executes actions to achieve policy retention and pricing objectives. Participates in agency review process.

    • In collaboration with the TSM, responsible for identifying and evaluating new agency prospects and developing new agencies in the fulfillment of Middle Market growth objectives.
    • Serves as a resource to our agents, conducts underwriting, sales, product and process training for agencies and their staff.
    • Responsible for agency travel to increase producer awareness of Enterprise underwriting appetites, philosophy and product offerings maximizing time with the right agencies.
    • Record all agency management actions in CRM.
    • Must be located in Minneapolis, MN (or surrounding area)

Territory Leadership- responsible for profit, growth, pricing, underwriting quality and meeting service standards in assigned territory.
  • Develops and implements territory plan to attract desired business and gain relevance with key agents.
  • Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters.
  • Monitors market conditions, develops competitive intelligence, and makes recommendations regarding new and/or existing products, programs, risk appetite and services.

What You'll Bring To The Company:
Bachelor's degree or CPCU designation or comparable education and experience plus three or more years commercial multiple lines underwriting experience preferred. Must possess excellent communication, decision-making, sales and negotiation skills, PC skills and work management skills, and the ability to complete multiple tasks within set deadlines and should be willing to continue learning and updating skills. Significant travel is required to develop effective agency relations. Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently in a remote setting.
