Integrated proteins, also known as integral membrane proteins, are proteins that are permanently attached to the cell membrane. They play crucial roles in various cellular processes, such as transporting molecules across the membrane, cell signaling, and maintaining the structure of the cell. These proteins span the lipid bilayer and can interact with both the interior and exterior environments of the cell. Their functions are essential for cell communication and homeostasis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an integrated proteins scientist, and why are they important?
