The company operates a growing multistate footprint through its integrated lab network, including locations across Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Texas, and Utah.

Position Summary

The IT Systems Administrator will take ownership of our technology infrastructure and drive it forward while working on site at Avaneer Dental Studio in Warren, MI. In this role, you will be the primary steward of our servers, networks, cloud environment, and endpoints—ensuring reliability, security, and performance across all sites and partner locations nationwide. You will operate with significant autonomy, empowered to identify gaps, architect solutions, and lead implementation from concept through completion.

This is a hands-on, position for someone who is equally comfortable writing runbooks and rolling up their sleeves. If you are passionate about open-source technologies, thrive in a trust-based environment, and take genuine pride in building systems that just work, this is the job for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Infrastructure & Server Administration
  • Deploy and maintain physical, virtual, and containerized environments.
  • Administer Proxmox, Ceph, and Samba systems.
  • Manage Linux and hybrid Windows Server environments.
  • Network Administration
  • Design, monitor, and optimize network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, DNS).
  • Configure and maintain OPNsense, SonicWall, Firezone, WireGuard, and related appliances.
  • Manage VLANs, NAT, DHCP, TLS, and structured cabling (RJ-45/fiber).
  • Identity, Cloud & Endpoint Management
  • Administer Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Intune, AD, and Group Policy.
  • Oversee endpoint imaging, deployment, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure secure identity and access across on-prem and cloud environments.
  • Security & Compliance
  • Enforce security standards aligned with NIST and HIPAA.
  • Identify vulnerabilities and drive remediation efforts.
  • Maintain backup and disaster recovery to ensure data integrity and continuity.
  • Projects, Documentation & Support
  • Lead IT projects from planning through post-implementation review.
  • Maintain system documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.
  • Provide escalated support and mentorship to IT staff.
  • Collaborate with vendors and recommend technology improvements.
  • Lead, train, and manage team members.
Qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years in systems administration with broad infrastructure ownership.
  • 5+ years of virtualization experience (Proxmox preferred; VMware acceptable).
  • Strong expertise in Linux (Debian/Ubuntu/RHEL) and Windows Server administration.
  • Relevant certifications (CompTIA, CCNA, Microsoft, or equivalent).
  • Solid networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VLANs, firewalls, TLS).
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Intune, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
  • Proven ability to design and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership, influence, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT (or equivalent experience/certifications).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with containers (Docker, Swarm, Kubernetes).
  • Scripting/automation skills (Bash, PowerShell, Ansible, Python).
  • Familiarity with Confluence and Jira.
  • Experience with dental/lab software (e.g., Exocad, 3Shape).
  • GitHub, home lab, or project portfolio demonstrating technical depth.
  • Passion for Linux, open source, and/or Microsoft ecosystems.
