Insurance premium auditors are employees of a variety of companies. You can work with businesses who specialize in handling premium audits, risk management, or business process outsourcing, but most available positions are with insurance companies. You can choose a field based on the type of insurance you’re most familiar with such as workers’ compensation, car, home, or life insurance, or choose a company that works with all insurance types. Some positions require working on the phone, while others require traveling within an assigned geographic area.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an insurance professional role, and why are they important?

To thrive in an insurance role, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of insurance products, often supported by a relevant degree or insurance-specific certifications such as CPCU or CLU. Familiarity with policy management software, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and underwriting tools is commonly required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused mindset help professionals build trust and effectively address client needs. These competencies are vital for ensuring accurate policy management, regulatory compliance, and delivering high-quality client service in a competitive industry.

Navigating regulatory changes requires continuous professional development and attention to compliance updates. Effective communication and organizational skills are vital for managing client expectations and workloads efficiently. Insurance Product Manager

Job description

Location: Waltham, MA (hybrid)

ERGO NEXT's mission is to help entrepreneurs thrive. We're doing that by building the only technology-led, full-stack provider of small business insurance in the industry, taking on the entire value chain and transforming the customer experience.

Simply put, wherever you find small businesses, you'll find ERGO NEXT.

Since 2016, we've helped hundreds of thousands of small business customers across the United States get fast, customized and affordable coverage. We're backed by industry leaders in insurance and tech, and we still have room to grow — that's where you come in.

We're looking for an Insurance Product Manager to help grow and evolve our Commercial Property and Inland Marine business.

You'll operate as a business owner for our insurance products—identifying growth opportunities, improving profitability, shaping product strategy, and turning ideas into market-ready solutions.

At NEXT, insurance product managers build. You'll stay close to both implementation and business results.

We hire insurance product managers at multiple levels. Level and scope will reflect your experience, prior ownership, and demonstrated ability to drive business outcomes.

What You'll Do:

  • Identify and prioritize growth opportunities across customer segments, geographies, coverages, distribution, and product capabilities.
  • Build, not just recommend. Lead initiatives from business case and product development through regulatory filing, design&implementation, launch, and performance monitoring. Make product changes directly where possible and partner with Engineering and Design on larger builds.
  • Drive profitable growth by diagnosing portfolio performance and translating insights into pricing, segmentation, underwriting, coverage, and form changes.
  • Shape the product strategy and roadmap using customer needs, competitive intelligence, claims insights, and portfolio economics.
  • Serve as a trusted product expert and cross-functional owner, partnering with Actuarial, Engineering, Data Science, Legal&Compliance, AI Underwriting, Claims, Operations, and leadership.

What We Need:

Required
  • Experienced: You have 5+ years of P&C insurance experience, with demonstrated ownership of insurance products, portfolios, or major initiatives. You understand how pricing, underwriting, segmentation, coverage, forms, and regulatory filings work together to drive product performance.
  • Builder: You take work from problem definition through launch and results. You're hands-on, comfortable with implementation details, and willing to learn the systems and tools needed to get the work done.
  • Business-minded: You understand how insurance product decisions affect growth, profitability, and loss performance. You use data to diagnose drivers, evaluate trade-offs, and take action.
  • Skilled: You're analytical, highly organized, and able to lead multiple complex initiatives. You communicate clearly and work effectively across insurance, technical, and business teams.
  • Hungry: You want meaningful ownership and visible impact. You're proactive, curious, collaborative, low-ego, and open to using new technology—including automation and AI—to improve how work gets done.
Preferred
  • Commercial lines experience, particularly Commercial Property, Inland Marine, or Businessowners Policy (BOP)
  • Relevant property-focused personal lines experience, particularly Homeowners or Dwelling Fire
  • Experience with rate, rule, or form filings
  • Experience partnering directly with Actuary, Engineering, Design, or technical product teams
  • Small commercial, insurtech, or digital insurance experience

Strong candidates from other P&C product lines will also be considered.

Qualifications:

    • BA/BS degree required
    • Advanced degree and/or insurance designation is a plus
