Job description

Job Summary

The Vice President, Construction Services provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for capital improvement and expansion initiatives, ensuring projects advance through the gated CapEx (Capital Expenditure) workflow from feasibility to approval, funding, and execution. The role allocates resources, establishes project teams, provides governance and operational support to drive consistent delivery, and monitors cost controls, contract performance, and overall project profitability and schedule. This position ensures all assigned projects are executed in accordance with scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory and industry standards.

This position provides the opportunity to work remote.

Job Duties
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight for assigned capital improvement and expansion initiatives across Construction Services operations. (Essential)
  • Owns the gated CapEx workflow for assigned projects-leading feasibility, establishing project teams, and guiding initiatives through approval, funding, and execution. (Essential)
  • Provides governance, expertise, and operational support to ensure consistent project delivery, efficient execution, and adherence to quality and compliance standards. (Essential)
  • Monitors budgets, cost controls, and contract performance to manage risk and ensure construction/development goals, metrics, and project profitability targets are achieved. (Essential)
  • Ensures projects are delivered to defined scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements, resolving issues and removing barriers to execution. (Essential)
  • Coordinates team member selection and development and ensures team members comply with appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Leads community expansion and development projects (design, permitting, budgeting, and construction management) to ensure compliance with Sun standards.
  • Directs and manages consultants and project partners; provides construction guidance and advisory support to Senior, Divisional, and Regional Vice Presidents.
  • Partners with community and field leadership to address and resolve construction and infrastructure issues, escalating and driving solutions as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in in construction management, architecture, or related field. (Required)
  • 10+ years in experience in construction and/or utilities management. (Required)
  • 2 years in experience managing facilities before, during, and after catastrophic events. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of building and infrastructure systems, regulatory requirements, and capital planning.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills; able to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Budgeting and financial analysis skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Proven ability to lead teams and self-perform when needed.
  • Able to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Strong communication skills with field teams and senior leadership.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project).
  • Ability to travel as required (up to 40%).
