How much do insurance salesman jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 13, 2026, the average yearly pay for insurance salesman in the United States is $54,620.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $33,500.00 and $60,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What type of insurance sales pays the most?

In insurance sales, selling high-value policies such as life insurance, commercial insurance, or specialized products like health or disability insurance often yields higher commissions and earnings. Experienced agents with strong client networks and certifications can also earn more through renewals and upselling. Typically, sales of complex or large policies tend to be more lucrative for insurance salespeople.

Is it hard to make money in insurance sales?

Insurance salespeople can earn varying income levels depending on their experience, sales skills, and the commission structure. Success often requires building a client base, strong communication skills, and persistence, as income can be inconsistent initially but may increase with experience and performance. Many agents supplement income through renewals and referrals.

What is the difference between Insurance Salesman vs Insurance Agent?

AspectInsurance SalesmanInsurance Agent
CredentialsTypically no formal licensing required for entry-level roles; licensing needed for selling insurance productsMust obtain state licensing and certifications to sell insurance products
Work EnvironmentOften works for a specific insurance company, selling their policiesUsually works independently or for agencies, representing multiple insurers
Employer & Industry UsageCommonly used term in sales-focused roles within insurance companiesMore formal term, used in licensing and industry regulations

The key difference lies in licensing requirements and the scope of products sold.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

An insurance salesman can potentially earn $4,000 a week through commissions and sales bonuses, especially with high-value policies and experienced sales skills. Other high-paying roles without a degree include real estate agents, certain sales positions, and entrepreneurial ventures, but these often require strong networking, sales ability, and sometimes licensing or certifications. Income levels vary widely based on performance, location, and industry demand.

Is insurance sales a good career?

Insurance sales is a sales-oriented profession that can offer flexible hours, commission-based income, and opportunities for advancement. Success often depends on strong interpersonal skills, product knowledge, and persistence, with many agents earning competitive salaries and benefits. However, income stability can vary, and building a client base requires ongoing effort and networking.
