Job Description

Position Summary: Rockwell Automation is seeking an Engineering Manager - Hardware to lead a high-performing team responsible for the development of industrial control products, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), I/O systems, and communication devices.

In this role, you will manage a team of hardware engineers and technicians delivering products from concept through release-managing requirements, architecture, design execution, certification, and production readiness. You will help shape next-generation industrial platforms and driving engineering excellence across programs.

You will collaborate with leaders across Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Manufacturing, and Operations to deliver high-quality, scalable, and cost-effective solutions. This is a global, that requires, technical depth, and experience with building both products and people.

This role will report to the Senior Manager of Hardware Engineering.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Lead and Develop Teams
    • Manage and mentor a team of 15-20 hardware engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of accountability and growth
    • Drive performance management, career development, and talent planning
  • Drive Product Development Execution
    • Oversee all phases of hardware product development: requirements, architecture, design, validation, certification, and production release
    • Ensure designs meet quality, cost, reliability, and manufacturability targets
  • Champion Engineering Excellence
    • Uphold strong engineering practices in architecture, design integrity, and verification
    • Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and capabilities
  • Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Product Management, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to align on product strategy and execution
    • Drive alignment across global and cross-site teams
  • Operational & Strategic Leadership
    • Lead organizational or functional initiatives (e.g., talent development, process improvements, tool adoption)
    • Serve as a project sponsor for key product developments
  • Deliver Results
    • Ensure predictable execution against program milestones and business objectives
    • Drive a "right-first-time" mindset in product design and implementation
  • Foster Culture & Engagement
    • Create an inclusive, high-performance work environment

The Essentials - You Will Have: Rockwell Automation is seeking an Engineering Manager - Hardware to lead a high-performing team responsible for the development of industrial control products, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), I/O systems, and communication devices.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required- we will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, not now or in the future, for this job opening

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • Typically requires 5+ years of experience in technical leadership or people management functions within electronic hardware development (design through release)
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
  • Experience delivering products in regulated environments (e.g., CE, IEC 61010)
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies (SAFe)
  • Experience developing embedded hardware systems
  • Experience with industrial automation products or complex system-level designs
  • Experience working with global, distributed teams
  • Experience with project leadership or program management responsibilities
  • Experience with functional safety (IEC 61508 / IEC 61511) and/or cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443)
  • Experience managing external partners or 3rd-party engineering resources
