Job description

OverviewPosition Summary:

NaphCare has an excellent opportunity for a temporary Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL supporting the Residential Reentry Centers (RRC) for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Under the direct supervision of the Director - Federal Prisons, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for receiving and approving prescription requests for the Residential Reentry Center (RRC) residents.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Use knowledge and expertise to ensure the pharmaceutical processes and systems are followed appropriately according to policies and procedures, company performance, and accreditation standards.
  • Communicate effectively with RRC case managers, BOP contacts, NaphCare team members and third-party pharmacy providers. Maintain clear lines of communication throughout issue-resolution processes. 
  • Demonstrate personal performance based on professional practice standards, relevant statutes, rules and regulations and organizational criteria.
  • Receive electronic prescription and refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
  • Work with the third-party pharmacy provider to approve overrides for costly medications.
  • Check bi-monthly invoices for accuracy and send for payment in a timely manner.
  • Work with Program Manager and Contracting team to bring new pharmacies on board when needed.
  • Must complete sufficient hours of CEU to maintain Technician license. Ensure that all pharmaceutical services provided within the facility conform to state licensure, accreditation, regulatory agency requirements, and company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism by using objectivity, maintaining self-control when under pressure, professional from personal issues, displaying emotional maturity, separating maintaining a high degree of integrity, and promoting a positive work environment by setting an example.
  • Notify critical information to the next level of management that may have a negative impact on client and/or vendor relations or patient care.
  • Willingness to complete special projects as needed from management.
  • Willingness to work overtime if necessary.

 Position Requirements:

  • Must hold and maintain a current, unrestricted Pharmacy Technician certification issued by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience.
  • PTCB certification is a plus.
  • If not certified, must be able to acquire certification within twelve (12) months from hire date.
