Job description

Summary

Arete Incident Response is offering an in-person Security Analyst Internship within our Managed Detection and Response (MDR) team for the period of August 2026 to December 2026. This opportunity is perfect for current, full-time college students studying Cybersecurity who want to move beyond books and theory to gain experience in responding to real-world cyber threats.

This internship will provide hands-on experience with triaging, mitigating, and escalating Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) alerts, while providing guidance on building a strong foundation for a successful career in cybersecurity. If you want to protect people, have relentless curiosity, and are willing to put in the work to master alert triage, we want to talk to you.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Defend in Real-Time: Respond to active cyber threats as a first line of defense
  • Master Industry Tools: Triage and investigate security alerts in enterprise EDR and XDR platforms
  • Enrich and Investigate: Triage and correlate malicious activity using EDR logs, in-house tools, and open-source intelligence
  • Deep Dive Analysis: Upload and analyze threat binaries in malware sandboxes
  • Proactive Hunting: Go beyond alerts to perform threat hunting to identify subtle Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) used by modern cybercriminals
  • Communicate Impact: Escalate findings to Senior MDR Analyst and clients
  • Learn from Experts: Connect with subject matter experts within Arete IR to learn about Incident Response
  • Collaborate: Collaborate with and learn from Senior MDR Analysts
  • Client Success: Assist in MDR client lifecycle management, ensuring their environment security
  • Shift Oversight: Participate in shift schedule and take on Shift Lead responsibilities as a Security Analyst Intern
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management that support the Security Operation Center mission of protecting our clients from cybercriminals

Skills & Knowledge

  • Growth Orientation: Passionate about cybersecurity, detail-oriented, and committed to self-improvement and learning
  • Reliability: Able to show up professionally with consistency
  • Technical Aptitude: Foundational knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows/Linux/macOs) and file systems preferred
  • Scripting Awareness: Familiarity with Windows Powershell, Bash, SQL, and/or Python is a plus
  • Network Fundamentals: Basic familiarity with TCP/IP, OSI model, and basic networking is a plus

Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled college student with at least 1 year of education in Cybersecurity, Cyber Intelligence, Computer Science, or related fields preferred
  • Ability to commit to an average of 12-16 hours per week (about 42-64 hours a month), spread over 3-4 shifts weekly
  • Strong communication skills in English, both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to work in person, in Boca Raton, FL
