WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (ESSENTIAL DUTIES) …

Newport Mental Health, a leading community mental health organization committed to transforming lives and fostering well-being, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Intern to join our Finance Department. As a Finance Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in accounting, bookkeeping, and financial data entry while supporting the daily operations of the Finance team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the financial health of a mission-driven nonprofit organization.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Perform data entry into accounting systems and spreadsheets with a high level of accuracy
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate financial processing
  • Maintain and organize financial documents for audit readiness
  • Provide support for other basic accounting and administrative tasks as needed
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable using accounting software (experience with Blackbaud NXT or similar tools is a plus).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A willingness to learn and contribute in a collaborative team environment.

Other Duties:

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Attending trainings and meetings as assigned.
  • Adhere to safety policies including participation in fire/disaster drills.


Education and experience:

  • Enrolled in a university or college program at junior or senior level in accounting, finance, or a related field.
