Join Our Team at Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant! Weโ€™re currently seeking a dedicated Full-Time Fitness & Aquatics Instructorย to become part of our caring and mission-driven community. This position will be Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm and may work weekend and evening shifts depending on the need of the department.ย 

The Fitness and Aquatics Instructor is responsible for assisting in the planning and instruction of a variety of fitness programs for residents and staff.ย Additionally, the instructor collaborates with other members of the Resident Life team to support and deliver comprehensive wellness programming for residents, staff, and visitors.

What You'll Do as an LVMG Fitness & Aquatics Instructor:

  • Assist in planning and implementing wellness programs.
  • Lead aquatics and fitness classes as assigned by the Resident Life Coordinator and/or Director of Resident Life.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs in alignment with the organizationโ€™s wellness philosophy.
  • Design individualized fitness programs for Wellness Center members.
  • Conduct Senior Fitness Assessments for participants.
  • Provide one-on-one support in the gym and pool as appropriate.
  • Regularly monitor and guide gym members to ensure proper technique and safe use of equipment.
  • Collaborate with therapy staff regarding individuals transitioning from active therapy to fitness programs.
  • Coordinate with therapy staff to identify Wellness Center members who may benefit from active therapy.
  • Work with Assisted Living and Health Care Center Recreation staff to develop wellness programming across all levels of care.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of Employee Wellness initiatives.
  • Support Resident Life staff with specialty programs, including evening and weekend events.
  • Assist the Resident Life Coordinator with pool care and maintenance in accordance with Health Department regulations.
  • Perform lifeguarding duties as needed.
  • Be willing and able to operate LVMG vehicles not requiring a Class C license and safely use automatic lifts to transport residents.
  • Participate in ongoing learning and continuing education opportunities.
  • Serve on internal and external committees as requested.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

As an LVMG Fitness and Aquatics Instructor, You'll Use Your:

Education | Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Education or background in exercise physiology preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Certified Personal Trainer and Lifeguard; Certification or experience in aquatic exercise preferred. Must meet educational requirements to obtain and maintain relevant professional certifications.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license preferred.
  • Prior experience working with the senior population is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.
  • Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.
  • Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.
  • Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.
  • Physically able to move throughout the workday and lifting items up to 50 pounds using safe handling practices.
  • May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.
  • Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions.
