Manufacturing Systems Engineer
What you will do
Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role, you will be accountable for developing and continuously aligning the site manufacturing data ecosystem with rapidly changing business needs and Amgen Technology technical roadmaps. We are seeking candidates who possess expertise in business, and automation systems, information/data management and technical experience in database and data historian technologies and integration tools.
You will support the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing automation and information systems across the site. You will partner closely with manufacturing, quality, engineering, cybersecurity, and enterprise platform teams to ensure systems are reliable, compliant, and aligned with Amgen technology roadmaps.
This position may be filled at multiple experience levels, with scope and ownership aligned to demonstrated capability.
Responsibilities:
  • Support and/or lead the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of manufacturing automation and information systems: Delta V, FactoryTalk / Rockwell platforms, Building Automation Systems (BAS), ThinManager and mobile solutions, and Siemens Location tracking and/or related site services.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing operations, including troubleshooting, system performance improvements, and incident response.
  • Participate in capital project execution, including requirements definition, design reviews, testing, validation, and startup support.
  • Own or contribute to system roadmaps, lifecycle planning, and technical debt reduction.
  • Collaborate with business partners to translate operational needs into functional and technical designs.
  • Support manufacturing data integrations, historians, reporting, and analytics solutions.
  • Ensure systems meet GMP, data integrity, cybersecurity, and validation requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate work with internal platform and service owners.
  • Support and/or lead Global Asset Lifecycle Management (GLAM) initiatives, including platform lifecycle planning, implementation, sustainment, and continuous improvement
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and automate manual workflows.
  • Stay current with industry and technology trends and apply learnings pragmatically to site operations.

Basic Qualifications:
Master's degree
OR
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of Information Systems, Engineering and/or Information Technology experience
OR
Associate's degree and 6 years of Information Systems, Engineering and/or Information Technology experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Information Systems, Engineering and/or Information Technology experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting manufacturing automation and information systems in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably within pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more automation or site systems platforms, such as DeltaV, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Building Automation Systems (BAS), ThinManager, Siemens location tracking, or related manufacturing platforms.
  • Working knowledge of information systems infrastructure fundamentals, including Windows-based systems, virtualization, networking, storage, and Active Directory.
  • Experience supporting or implementing manufacturing data integrations, historians, reporting, or analytics solutions (e.g., SQL, web services, data mapping).
  • Familiarity with GMP software development lifecycle, change control, validation practices, and regulated system support.
  • Experience working with capital projects or complex system implementations, including design reviews, testing, and deployment.
  • Ability to translate business and operational requirements into functional and technical solutions.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and contributing effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with vendors and cross-functional teams to deliver and sustain technology solutions.
  • Exposure to Agile or iterative delivery methodologies is a plus.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
