Job description

The Information Governance Analyst supports the Firm's Information Governance program through the administration and continuous improvement of information governance, ethical wall, client confidentiality, data protection, and records management initiatives. Working closely with Information Security, IT, and other stakeholders, the Analyst assists with governance and security controls, information monitoring, technology implementations, analytics, and process improvement efforts. The role contributes to compliance assessments, supports the implementation of policy and control enhancements, and helps strengthen the Firm's management of information-related risk while promoting the secure and compliant use of Firm and client information.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Information Governance Manager and Senior Information Governance Analyst in administering and enhancing the firm's information governance, ethical wall, client confidentiality, and preventive security control programs in collaboration with information security, risk management, and IT teams on investigations, policy enforcement, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Document, analyze, and assess current information, records, email, and file management processes; identify issues, compliance gaps, and risks; evaluate opportunities to strengthen governance controls, security, and operational efficiency; assess the impact of proposed changes on lawyers, legal staff, and Firm administrative personnel; and support the implementation of approved initiatives.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and technology teams to support project execution, track deliverables, identify and escalate issues, maintain project documentation, and assist with operational readiness efforts.

  • Analyze business processes, operational workflows, and departmental needs to support process improvement, policy development and implementation, and service delivery objectives Firm-wide.

  • Conduct document and electronic content security analysis, lead initial investigation into alerts triggered by potentially inappropriate actions, and take necessary action to update document security as appropriate.

  • Help prepare recommendations for the design or reengineering of processes and procedures to enhance preventive security controls and ensure compliance with information and records management requirements; contribute to presentations and reports for leadership.

  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and analytics related to information governance, ethical wall administration, data protection controls, and special projects; provide actionable insights to support program oversight and strategic decision-making.

  • Provide assistance to lawyers and staff with the reviewing, organizing and processing of email, documents, files, and other information and document access requests.

  • Draft process controls, test plans, and assessment criteria to measure compliance with established processes.

  • Move, tag, and set the appropriate security settings on electronic documents.

  • Stay abreast of industry developments and leading practices for information governance and data classification; information security; and the creation, use, maintenance, and disposition of records.

  • Perform other duties and support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or five (5) years of relevant experience in a law firm, financial services, professional services, corporate legal department, or other highly regulated environment will be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Knowledge of information governance; information security and data privacy; and records management procedures, principles, and best practices.

  • Experience supporting cross-functional initiatives and technology-related projects.

  • Familiarity with document management systems (e.g., NetDocuments, iManage) and content management and collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft SharePoint).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Outlook.

Preferred:

  • Experience with ethical wall and information barrier applications, such as Intapp Walls, used to support client confidentiality, matter security, and compliance requirements.

  • Experience with Microsoft Purview for data governance, information protection, data classification, and compliance monitoring initiatives.

  • Experience with information security monitoring technologies (Cyberhaven, Netskope, and/or Proofpoint).

  • Familiarity with AI governance and information protection practices supporting the secure and compliant use of AI-enabled tools.

  • Information Governance Profession (IGP) certification.

The target salary range for this role is:

$73,800 - $102,700 if located in Illinois or Washington, D.C.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
