Forklift Operator
Job Status: Hourly
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Weekends
Reports to: Varies
Positions Supervised: None
Job Summary:
The Forklift Operator will be assigned to one of 5 areas: Receiving, Shipping, Treating Plant, Stacker, or Kiln. Could be asked to fill in other areas as needed. Regardless of area assigned, the Forklift Operator is responsible for moving wood bundles throughout the production process while maintaining environmental and safety compliance at all times.
Essential Functions/Duties:
โ€ข Ensure all environmental and safety procedures are followed and report all unsafe or non-compliant issues.
โ€ข If assigned to Receiving or Shipping, unload and load trucks in a safe and appropriate manner.
โ€ข If assigned to the Treating Plant, load and unload tram cars and stage material for the next treating charge(s) in a safe and appropriate manner.
โ€ข If assigned to Stacker, load material onto the stacker infeed to be processed. Remove sticked material and stage for kiln loading. Remove finished goods and place in the appropriate area of finished goods storage in a safe and appropriate manner.
โ€ข If assigned to Kiln, load and unload kiln charges as directed by the Kiln Coordinator or Kiln Operator in a safe and appropriate manner.
โ€ข Willing and capable of flowing to different areas of the plant as the forklift operator.
โ€ข Move safely and appropriately throughout the yard without damaging material.
โ€ข Place spacers on the ground and between bundles as required and pick up spacers.
โ€ข Attend all training sessions and safety meetings.
โ€ข Ensure they are trained on the specific lift they are using.
โ€ข Perform daily forklift checks, maintain Daily Forklift Operators Checklist and notify leadership of any forklift issues.
โ€ข Identify various wood sizes and treatments.
โ€ข Computer duties as necessary.
โ€ข Other duties as directed.
Qualifications:
โ€ข High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) recommended.
โ€ข Ability to learn and obtain a forklift operating permit.
โ€ข Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
โ€ข Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
โ€ข Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve problems.
โ€ข Ability to read and write and communicate effectively with others.
โ€ข Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
โ€ข Ability to demonstrate behaviors conforming to Hoover's set of values and accepted standards.
โ€ข Ability to be internally inspired to perform a task to the best of one's ability using his or her own drive or initiative.
โ€ข This position does not require the use of a computer.
Work Environment:
Indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. It could be hot, cold, humid, and/or rain.
Training Requirements:
Immediately upon hire or assignment to the Forklift Operator position, training will take place in Safety and Environmental programs. Annual training over all programs.
