Job description

Alpina Tax & Accounting Services LLC is seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) to join our growing tax and advisory practice in South Florida.


We are looking for a CPA/EA who is more than a tax return preparer. The ideal candidate has strong experience preparing individual and business tax returns, handling IRS representation matters, and providing tax and business advisory services to clients.


This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA who enjoys working directly with business owners and individuals, solving complex tax issues, and providing proactive advice throughout the year.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Tax Preparation

  • Prepare and review federal and state individual income tax returns.
  • Prepare and review business tax returns, including partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, and LLCs.
  • Analyze financial information and tax documents to identify potential tax issues, opportunities, and compliance concerns.
  • Research tax issues and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Review tax returns prepared by other staff members for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with clients regarding tax questions, missing information, and tax return results.
  • Assist with tax planning and year-end tax projections.


IRS Representation

  • Represent clients before the IRS and, when applicable, state taxing authorities.
  • Handle IRS notices, correspondence, audits, collections matters, and other taxpayer issues.
  • Review IRS account transcripts and tax records to identify outstanding liabilities and compliance issues.
  • Assist clients with resolving delinquent tax returns and tax liabilities.
  • Prepare and submit appropriate responses, documentation, and correspondence to taxing authorities.
  • Assist with payment arrangements, penalty abatement, offers in compromise, and other IRS resolution matters as appropriate.
  • Communicate with IRS representatives on behalf of clients.
  • Maintain organized documentation and detailed case notes throughout each representation engagement.


Tax & Business Advisory

  • Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services to business owners and individuals.
  • Meet with clients to discuss their financial and tax situations and identify planning opportunities.
  • Analyze business financial statements and key financial information.
  • Assist business owners with entity structure, owner compensation, retirement planning, estimated tax payments, and other tax-related decisions.
  • Prepare year-to-date tax projections and estimated tax payment calculations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve clients' tax positions and overall financial outcomes.
  • Help clients understand the tax implications of major business and personal financial decisions.
  • Participate in quarterly and annual advisory meetings with clients.


Client Relationship Responsibilities

  • Develop trusted relationships with clients and serve as a knowledgeable tax and advisory resource.
  • Explain complex tax concepts in a clear, understandable manner.
  • Proactively identify client needs and recommend appropriate services.
  • Work collaboratively with the firm's accounting and administrative team.
  • Maintain timely communication and follow through on client commitments.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential client information.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) license.
  • Strong experience preparing individual and business tax returns.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience with federal taxation.
  • Prior IRS representation experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred:

  • Experience with all IRS matters collection and resolution matters.
  • Experience with tax projections and tax planning.
  • Experience advising business owners.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop and financial statement analysis.
  • Experience with TaxDome or similar practice management/client portal software.
  • Experience with UltraTax Software
  • Experience working in a small or boutique CPA/tax firm.
