Job Description:

Aerojet Rocketdyne, a segment of L3Harris, is a leader in the design, manufacture, and deployment of advanced propulsion and energetics systems, including those for rocket motors. Our customers include the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and other notable agencies and companies domestically and internationally.

We are currently seeking an Industrial Systems Engineer to join our team, focused on specifying requirements for propulsion system manufacturing facilities.

Candidates interested in applying for this position should have a strong background in systems engineering and a keen understanding of manufacturing processes within the aerospace or defense industries. This role demands meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage complex projects under minimal oversight.

In this role, the Industrial Systems Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

 

  • Specify Requirements: Develop comprehensive system and facility requirements for the specification, design, and construction of a propulsion system manufacturing facility.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with Operations and Manufacturing Engineering to enhance facility performance, ensuring that facility requirements support processes and comply with relevant policies, regulations, and applicable standards.
  • Integration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure requirements are met during the design and construction phases.
  • Project Management Support: Provide support for project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation to ensure the timely completion of the facility.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful project completion.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure facility design requirements comply with all relevant safety and regulatory standards.
  • Communication: Present findings and updates in written reports and oral presentations to stakeholders at various levels.

 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Requirement Development (50%): Develop and document facility and equipment requirements, ensuring alignment with project objectives and standards. Manage requirements in a database and ensure traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Process Analysis (20%): Analyze and determine the optimal processes and workflows for propulsion system manufacturing. Conduct cost-benefit and trade studies to select the best manufacturing concepts.
  • Project Coordination (20%): Work collaboratively with integrated product teams to manage schedule and resource constraints, ensuring milestones are met.
  • Risk Assessment (10%): Conduct risk assessment and management activities, reporting mitigation strategies and progress.
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.
  • Travel: Up to 25%.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior Industrial Systems Engineering or related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior Industrial Systems Engineering or related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior Industrial Systems Engineering or related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Systems Engineering, Mechanical,  Aerospace Engineering is a plus.
  • 4 years of relevant experience in systems engineering and/or manufacturing engineering, preferably in the aerospace or defense sectors.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting preconstruction processes to include planning and programming.
  • Active US Secret Clearance is preferred.
  • Experience with IBM DOORs and Model-Based Systems Engineering methodologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and other building design drawings.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes within the aerospace or defense industries.
  • This role demands meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage complex projects under minimal oversight.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interactions with teams and stakeholders.
  • May require varying shifts and hours to ensure successful project and facility operations.
