Job description

Position: Industrial Maintenance Reliability Technician (IMRT) Apprentice I
Location: Morristown, TN
Shift: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Schedule may rotate based on training requirements)
Starting Pay Rate: $21.74/hour
Summary Description
The Industrial Maintenance Reliability Technician (IMRT) Apprentice is a four-year apprenticeship designed for individuals looking to build a long-term career in industrial maintenance. Reporting to the Plant Engineer, the apprentice will combine classroom instruction with hands-on training to develop the technical skills needed to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve manufacturing equipment.
Working alongside experienced maintenance professionals, you'll gain practical experience while pursuing an approved Associate Degree or Certification in Mechatronics or a related maintenance field. As you complete training milestones and on-the-job competencies, you'll progress through the apprenticeship with annual pay increases.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing production equipment under the direction of experienced maintenance technicians and the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Learn to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Assist with repairs to utility systems and facility equipment.
  • Support equipment installations, upgrades, and maintenance projects.
  • Assist with tooling changes, machine setups, and equipment adjustments.
  • Participate in equipment inspections and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Learn safe maintenance practices while supporting departmental and plant safety initiatives.
  • Participate in safety audits, training activities, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and work records.
  • Develop technical knowledge through classroom instruction and hands-on training.
  • Attend the approved apprenticeship school curriculum sponsored by TOPPAN Packaging Americas.
  • Complete assigned coursework and on-the-job training requirements.
  • Support maintenance projects and other duties as assigned.

  • You are interested in earning an Associate Degree or Certification in Mechatronics or a related industrial maintenance field through an approved TOPPAN apprenticeship program.
  • You are committed to maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA throughout the program.
  • You are willing to complete coursework outside of your regular work schedule.
  • You enjoy troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • You have strong mechanical aptitude and enjoy working with your hands.
  • You have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • You are dependable with strong attendance and a positive attitude.
  • You communicate well and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • You are motivated to build a long-term career in industrial maintenance.
  • You are comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • You are willing to commit to remaining with TOPPAN Packaging Americas for at least three years after completing the apprenticeship program, as required by the tuition agreement.

Apprenticeship Program
  • Four-year apprenticeship program combining classroom instruction and hands-on training.
  • Annual wage progression based on successful completion of on-the-job training competencies and maintaining good standing.
  • TOPPAN Packaging Americas will pay 100% of approved educational costs after grants and scholarships are applied.
  • Participants are required to remain employed with TOPPAN Packaging Americas for at least three years after completing the program or repay educational expenses in accordance with the apprenticeship agreement.
