Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Industrial Designer Intern at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with the aesthetic and ergonomic development of projects and collaborating with Engineering, Marketing, and Management teams to explore, innovate, and execute world-class designs.
Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with Design, Engineering, Marketing, and Management teams to translate project goals into relevant solutions
  • Explore a wide variety of compelling design options
  • Communicate concepts and ideas through verbal, visual, and written means

Basic Qualifications
Industrial Designer Intern:
  • Completed coursework in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must demonstrate digital proficiency in the use of tools such as SolidWorks, Keyshot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or Sketchbook Pro
  • Must demonstrate interest in designing for one of Garmin's core markets: Automotive (OEM), Automotive (Consumer), Aviation, Marine, Outdoor / Fitness, Exhibit/Retail/Environmental
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work respectfully with others

Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to provide a portfolio of school projects that demonstrates skills, experience and/or training in product design
