Job description

The Team and the Role

INDUS provides industrial support services across the Undersea Weapons Department (Code 30), Test and Evaluation Department (Code 20), Undersea Systems & Sustainment Department (Code 40) and Unmanned and Theater Undersea Warfare Systems Department (Code 50), of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport (NUWCDIVKPT). Requirements include providing technical support services associated with various industrial operations, depot repair activities, and torpedo intermediate maintenance functions.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the CNC Machinist performs manual and CNC machining, setup, and programming activities supporting HAAS CNC equipment in a classified environment on the NUWCDIVKPT Industrial Support Services (ISS) contract. This role has a strong emphasis on manual lathe and conventional machining (primary focus) as well as CNC setup and operation. It requires a self-starter with strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to work across multiple systems in a fast-paced production environment. This position is located in Keyport, WA.
What You'll Do
  • Perform manual machining operations (approximately 60% of duties), including setup and operation of conventional lathes, mills, and other machine tools in support of Code 31 DEPOT and Code 42 functions.
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC machines (primarily HAAS systems) to fabricate precision components in support of Code 42 operations (approximately 40% of duties).
  • Collaborate effectively with machinists, engineers, and other team members to resolve technical issues and ensure production accuracy and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship in all machining tasks.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure proper setup and machining processes.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • HS Diploma required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of hands-on machining experience, including significant experience with manual lathes and conventional machining operations (e.g., setup, turning, boring, threading, and precision measurement without CNC reliance).
  • Experience independently setting up and operating 2-axis, 3-axis, and 5-axis CNC mills and lathes, including tooling, offsets, probing systems, and troubleshooting (not limited to machine operation).
  • Working knowledge of G-code programming, CNC machining fundamentals, and CAM software (including at least one (1) year of MasterCAM experience).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong math skills (algebra, geometry, trigonometry) for calculating coordinates, tool paths, and machining parameters.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, machining parameters, and material properties for metals, plastics, and other machinable materials.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Your ability to receive medical certification (if required).
  • Your ability to obtain and maintain any appropriate licenses and certifications (if required).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications:
  • HAAS Control Interface experience.
  • HAAS CNC Certification.
  • Familiarity with HAAS conversational programming systems (IPS / Visual Quick Code).

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area or on-board submarines and in weapon facilities.
  • The ability to operate heavy machinery and industrial tools with limited to no supervision. Examples may include but are not limited to: Electric/Disel Forklift, CNC Milling Machine, Welding/Soldering, CAT III Overhead Crane, pallet jack, "Big Joe" stand-behind pallet lift mechanism, and more.

INDUS aims to provide a competitive compensation package, including a strong pay for performance rewards approach. The expected base pay range for this position is $47.85 - $51.00 per hour. This position is eligible to participate in our corporate 401(k) and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) programs, and may be eligible for performance bonuses, and other rewards and benefits (see more about our compensation package and benefits offered at Culture @ INDUS | INDUS Technology). The pay range for this role considers job-related knowledge, skills, work location, education and training, and certifications.
