ROLE SUMMARY

Matthews seeks a high-caliber research analyst to support portfolio management through fundamental company and industry research focused on publicly listed companies in India. The role involves developing actionable investment insights through rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis and contributing directly to investment decisions within Matthews’ India-focused strategies.


This is a research-intensive role suited for an experienced buy-side analyst with strong on-the-ground knowledge of India or deep experience covering the region. This role can be based in either San Francisco or Hong Kong.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct fundamental research on Indian companies, including analysis of business models, industry structure, competitive positioning, management quality, and long-term growth prospects
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models and valuation frameworks incorporating historical performance and forward-looking assumptions
  • Generate investment recommendations for new and existing holdings and present findings clearly to Portfolio Managers
  • Meet regularly with company management teams, industry participants, consultants, and regulatory or industry bodies, primarily in India and across Asia
  • Monitor portfolio holdings and key developments, supporting portfolio construction and risk assessment
  • Collect, organize, and synthesize company, industry, and macroeconomic data to support investment theses
  • Contribute to ongoing and ad hoc research projects and assist with the preparation of internal and external research publications


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or CFA strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in asset management or related investment research roles
  • Direct on-the-ground experience in India or a demonstrated track record researching Indian companies or industries in a buy-side context
  • Strong interest in long-term investing and well-articulated conviction in India’s investment opportunity set
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
  • Experience with investment research tools such as Bloomberg and FactSet
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills strongly preferred
  • Ability to clearly articulate investment ideas in both written and verbal form
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Asia
  • For U.S.-based candidates, permanent U.S. work authorization is required.
