Part-Time Independent Contractor or Full-Time Employee with Benefits
GRAVITAS Wine Marketing represents a world-class portfolio of California, Oregon, French, Italian and Southern Hemisphere wines. Our focus is primarily on family-owned producers that are leaders in their categories, many of which utilize organic and sustainable farming practices.
Our portfolio ranges from highly sought-after producers such as Bryant Estate, TOR Kenward Family Wines, Fort Ross Vineyard, Clos des Papes, Le Vieux Donjon, Vivier, and Bastianich to outstanding value-driven brands such as Les Jamelles, Wapisa, Bodega Diamandes, Altocedro, Etta Overton, and BonAnno.
Gravitas is a fast-growing company with veteran wine-industry leadership. We are seeking an Independent Retail Sales Specialist to maintain and grow our business with independent retailers throughout San Francisco.
This position may be part-time or full-time and is ideal for someone with strong existing buyer relationships and experience working in the territory. Deep technical wine knowledge is not required - but is encouraged. The most important qualities are consistency, dependability and the ability to grow a solid account base through regular in-person visits and thoughtful follow-up.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing independent retail accounts.
Conduct consistent in-person sales calls, buyer meetings and follow-up outreach.
Grow sales through new placements, displays, promotions and product introductions.
Develop new business through established relationships, referrals and targeted prospecting.
Recommend products that align with each retailer's customers, pricing and merchandising needs.
Provide dependable customer service and timely order follow-up.
Support supplier visits, retail tastings, staff presentations and promotions.
Communicate account activity, opportunities and follow-up needs to Gravitas management.
Participate in periodic sales meetings and portfolio education.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong existing relationships with independent retail buyers in San Francisco.
Previous sales, account-management, merchandising or retail experience in the territory.
Proven ability to maintain relationships and grow an established account base.
Comfortable visiting accounts in person on a consistent basis.
Organized, dependable, responsive and able to work independently.
Comfortable introducing new products and asking for placements and orders.
Working wine knowledge is helpful, but advanced wine certification is not required.
Willingness to learn and effectively present the Gravitas portfolio.
Basic computer and mobile-application proficiency.
Must reside in or near San Francisco.
Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, automobile insurance and a clean driving record required.
Ability to lift and transport wine cases and sales materials weighing up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
COMPENSATION
Independent contractor position
Part-time or full-time opportunity
Commission-based compensation plus approved expenses
Income potential of $48,000–$80,000+, depending on schedule, relationships, and sales performance
This position is not eligible for relocation.
