What is an independent contractor sales professional?

Independent contractor sales jobs refer to a wide array of positions in which you work as a sales representative on a freelance basis. Your duties and responsibilities vary depending on the products or services you sell on behalf of your clients. You may sell goods to existing customers or promote goods to potential customers on a sales lead list. Independent sales representatives are paid on a commission basis, if and when they make a sale or provide a lead that turns into a sale. Business-to-business (B2B) salespeople develop relationships with companies and attend trade shows to make new contacts.

How does an independent contractor sales role typically structure compensation and manage client relationships compared to traditional sales positions?

As an Independent Contractor in Sales, your compensation is often commission-based, meaning your earnings are directly tied to your sales performance rather than a fixed salary. You are usually responsible for developing and maintaining your own client relationships, which requires strong self-motivation and excellent communication skills. Unlike traditional employees, independent contractors enjoy a high degree of flexibility but must manage their own schedules, prospecting, and follow-ups. Building a solid client base and reputation is key to long-term success in this role.

What is the difference between Independent Contractor Sales vs Sales Representative?

AspectIndependent Contractor SalesSales Representative

Work EnvironmentSelf-managed, flexible schedule, remote or on-siteTypically works for a company, often in an office or retail setting

Independent Contractor Sales professionals operate as self-employed individuals, focusing on generating sales independently, often with flexible hours. Sales Representatives usually work directly for a company, following its sales strategies and schedules. The key difference lies in employment status and work setup, with independent contractors maintaining autonomy and sales reps being company employees.

We operate throughout South Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana - a strong commercial market with warehouses, medical facilities, manufacturing sites, schools, and municipal buildings.

The Opportunity
City Wide Facility Solutions is seeking experienced disinfecting service providers to support our portfolio of commercial clients.
We work with offices, medical facilities, schools, and high-traffic environments that require reliable, professional disinfecting services to maintain safe and healthy spaces.
This includes both recurring preventative programs and on-demand disinfecting services, depending on client needs.

  • Electrostatic spraying, fogging, or manual disinfecting (as applicable)
  • Surface disinfection (desks, door handles, restrooms, shared equipment, etc.)
  • Response-based disinfecting services when required

Work may include:
  • Daytime or after-hours service depending on facility needs
  • Coordination with on-site teams and facility managers
  • Documentation of services performed (logs, photos, reporting)

You will be expected to:
Deliver thorough, consistent, and compliant disinfecting services
Benefits
We help you grow a real business - not just pick up extra work.
  • Consistent, Recurring Contracts (No Hunting Required)
We bring you qualified commercial accounts so you can focus on operations - not cold calling, bidding, or chasing leads.
  • Reliable, On-Time Payments
Eliminate collections headaches. We handle billing and client payment - you get paid consistently and predictably.
  • Scale Your Revenue Quickly
Access multiple accounts across our territory - grow from a small crew to a multi-team operation with steady work.

Our Facility Solutions Managers handle client communication, inspections, and issue resolution - helping you retain accounts and maintain high standards.
  • No Sales, No Admin Burden
We manage contracts, client expectations, and service coordination - freeing you to focus on delivering quality work and building your team.
  • 20+ Other Opportunities
Expand into additional services (floor care, porter services, consumables, specialty cleaning) and increase revenue per account.
  • Long-Term Partnership Model
We are invested in your growth - many of our partners have scaled into six-figure and multi-crew businesses with us.
