Job Description
Job Title: Pulmonary Function Tech

Certifications: Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist, CPR Certification
Must-Have:
Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy or a Cardiopulmonary Technologist training program preferred.
Description:
Communicates effectively with medical staff members and supervisors.
Performs all testing modalities provided in the pulmonary function lab.
Assists in the development and implementation of new testing procedures, equipment, and policies.
Helps oversee and train respiratory therapy students assigned to a clinical rotation in the lab.
Participates in biologic control testing in the lab and clarifies ambiguous testing orders.
Maintains compliance with documentation policies and procedures.
Assists with daily transaction activity reports and compilation of monthly statistics.
Ensures accurate patient registration in accordance with policies.
Stays abreast of the latest technology for pulmonary function testing and respiratory therapy education.
Completes annual competency related to all job duties for pulmonary function technologists and laboratory.
Effectively communicates with providers and staff for scheduling specialty exams in the lab.
Confirms patient appointments and provides testing instructions when necessary.
Participates in hospital-wide and interdepartmental in-services.
Recognizes trends which impact quality delivery of services and recommends corrective actions.
Provides accurate documentation of testing performed and billing in the electronic medical record.
Contacts interpreting physicians and informs supervisors of any delays noted with interpretation time.
Assists in ordering supplies and checking to prevent overstock.
Helps maintain monthly log sheet for compilation of statistics for reporting.
Assists in the monitoring of daily operations of the lab to ensure adherence to guidelines.
Prepares, maintains, and calibrates pulmonary function testing equipment.
Troubleshoots equipment problems and reports needed repairs or replacements.
Performs other duties consistent with this role.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Excellent understanding of pulmonary function testing and respiratory therapy is required.
Able to communicate effectively with all staff members.
