As the Senior Clinical Ethicist you will participate in ethics consultation, education, and local hospital policy review. Consultation services will identify and analyze the nature of uncertainty or conflict and facilitate resolution of conflicts with attention to interests, responsibilities and rights of all involved. This position will promote practices consistent with ethical norms and standards within the law and assist with utilization of resources.

This is a 40 hour per week role servicing Medical Centers in the Phoenix and Tucson markets.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will participate in ethics consultation, education, and local hospital policy review. Consultation services will identify and analyze the nature of uncertainty or conflict and facilitate resolution of conflicts with attention to interests, responsibilities and rights of all involved. This position will promote practices consistent with ethical norms and standards within the law and assist with utilization of resources.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Performs Clinical Ethics Consultation and advisory services when identified or requested. Assists with reviewing, editing, and educating on local hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines as needed.

2. Provides education for stakeholders, physicians, nurses, patients, and other members of the medical staff related to program services. Engages and promotes one team responsibility, trust, and collaboration.

3. Achieves operational, financial, or service objectives and goals.

4. Oversees scheduling of services to ensure timely response, evaluation, and consultation.

5. Identifies and assists with process improvement projects in conjunction with leadership. Identifies, measures, and reports local quality improvement and related metrics as identified by program leadership.

6. Engages and promotes one team responsibility, trust, and collaboration.

7. Communicates compassionately and mitigates conflict with patients and families.

8. Serves as a member and expert advisor to local Ethics Committees.

9. Participates in on call services on a rotating basis, which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holiday coverage for the entire Banner System. Travel between Phoenix metro area facilities, as well as remote ethics support may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires Master's degree or higher in Bioethics along with ethics consultation experience, or fellowship training in clinical ethics.

Must have HEC-C (Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified) within 1 year of hire.

This position requires at least one year of experience working in a health care setting. Must have demonstrated knowledge of principles, concepts and methods involved in clinical ethics and clinical ethics consultation.

Must have excellent communication skills and be able to interact with all stakeholders in the health system. Must be able to work with patients and their families in a respectful and collaborative manner. Must have demonstrated experience in delivering ethics education programming.

PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two or more years of experience in clinical ethics consultation, with high-volume (>100 consuls a year) service experience preferred.

HEC-C certification and Bioethics degree or Clinical Ethics Fellowship.

Experience facilitating resolution of conflicts in respectful atmosphere with attention to interests, responsibilities and rights of all involved.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
