Job description

Job Title: Morgue Attendant

Pay Range: $23.37 - $30.42 per hour

The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

The Morgue Attendant/Grossing Room Lab Assistant supports the daily operations of the Anatomic Pathology department by performing duties to decedent care, specimen accessioning, gross room support, and maintenance of a safe, organized, and compliant work environment,

Receive and properly identify decedents in accordance with hospital, regulatory, and safety standards,

Maintain morgue census, documentation, and decedent tracking records,

Assist with release of decedents to funeral homes, medical examiner, and authorized personnel,

Ensure proper storage, handling, and respectful care of decedents,

Monitor morgue equipment and report malfunctions,

Receive, verify, accession, label, and process surgical pathology specimens accurately in the laboratory information system,

Ensure specimens are properly identified, documented, and prepared for gross examination,

Perform specimen triage and routing according to establish protocols,

Education High school diploma or equivalent required,

Associate degree in science or healthcare related field preferred,
