Job description

SUMMARY

The Import/Export Freight Coordinator supports daily international shipping operations by organizing documentation, coordinating with carriers and customers, and ensuring shipments move efficiently, accurately, and in full compliance with applicable trade regulations. This role is well suited to a detail-oriented professional early in their logistics career who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate import and export shipments from booking through final delivery.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain all required shipping documentation, including bills of lading (BOLs), commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
  • Communicate with carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure the timely movement of goods.
  • Track and trace shipments; proactively identify and resolve delays or exceptions.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs requirements, international trade regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records in internal ERP/TMS systems.
  • Provide timely status updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with rate requests, quotes, and carrier scheduling.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Logistics department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • One (1) to five (5) years of related experience in import/export operations, freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and competing deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Working knowledge of international shipping terms (Incoterms), customs processes, and trade compliance โ€” or a demonstrated willingness to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Certificates, licenses, and registrations: None required. Customs or trade-compliance training/certification (e.g., HTS classification, AES filing) preferred.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) and Inventory Software; experience with ERP and/or Transportation Management Systems (TMS) preferred.
