Ardent is seeking a GIS Implementation Engineer - Technical Lead to join our team.  

This is an on-site role in Huntsville, Alabama which is ranked among the most educated cities per capita in the US and provides low cost of living compared to other tech hubs. It also a growing hub for aerospace, defense, cybersecurity, and geospatial technologies. A relocation assistance package will be provided to the selected candidate.

Ardent is seeking a motivated GIS Implementation Engineer - Technical Lead to oversee a cross-functional technical team responsible for operating and maintaining ArcGIS Enterprise. This role is essential in delivering geospatial solutions by configuring and deploying various Esri capabilities to meet mission-critical needs.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working closely with various IT teams and stakeholders, and excels at turning complex requirements into effective, real-world solutions. This role will directly contribute to solving organizational challenges through hands-on implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Support and Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot client issues related to ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise application deployment, system architecture, and REST Services.
  • Cloud-Based Solutions: Envision, design, and deploy ArcGIS cloud-based applications and data management strategies for large-scale deployment and management in the Homeland Security community.
  • Customer Interaction and Needs Assessment: Become a technical expert of ArcGIS. Speak confidently with customers about ESRI technology and anticipate customer needs.
  • Maintenance and Security: Secure and maintain stability of ArcGIS Enterprise REST services by installing Microsoft/ESRI security patches, user authentication, HTTPS enforcement, firewall and network configurations, and adherence to organizational cyber security policies and practices.
  • Complex Problem Solving: Solve complex problems with IT infrastructure, application design, development, and user experiences. Quickly convert customer ideas to minimum-viable-products using the entire ArcGIS suite of tools.
  • Design and develop automation tools and custom applications using ArcGIS REST API and Python API to streamline GIS workflows such as:
    • Automated map production
    • Publishing and managing web services
    • Synchronizing data across databases
    • Generating web maps
  • Tool and Application Development: In-depth experience leveraging ArcGIS Dashboard, Insights, S123, Field Maps, ExB, and WAB. Write technical design specifications and support documentation.
  • Data Management: Manage geospatial data using best practices, including the creation, editing, and maintenance of geodatabases, map services, and metadata within both ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro environments.
  • Innovation and Technology Adoption: Suggests new technologies and approaches, often demonstrating and championing their use. Estimate the duration and level of effort of development tasks through collaboration with SME and leads.
  • Adaptability: Adaptability in the face of demand change, setbacks, and transitions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Earth Sciences, IT-focused discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of geospatial solution engineering experience
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to troubleshoot client issues related to Esri ArcGIS Enterprise application deployment andsystem architecture
  • Understanding of ArcGIS from an IT context (hardware, storage, security, networking, web services, virtualization, cloud computing)
  • Experience deploying, upgrading, and/or administrating an ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Experience Operating and Maintaining a multi-machine or single-machine ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro creating maps,performing spatial analysis, and configuring web applications.
  • Working knowledge of modern web technology including web servers, web browsers, HTTP methods and tools such as browser developer tools
  • Must have strong understanding ofgeodatabases and underlying DBMS technology
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and environments, such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Execute Operating System updates and ArcGIS software updates to mitigate bugs
  • Experience developing technical documentation

Recommended Qualifications:

  • One or more industry-standard IT certificates (Esri, CompTIA, Microsoft, Amazon)
  • Experience providing technical support for a distributed and/or disconnected ArcGIS Enterprise environment
  • Experience with Python, Noteboooks, and Javascript
  • Working knowledge or experience with cloud computing concepts and environments, such as Microsoft Azure or AWS; providing application-level technical support within cloud security, cloud architecture and design, troubleshooting, and/or cloud deployment
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methods
  • Familiarity with database and web server maintenance
