Van Marcke Trade Supply has been committed to supplying quality plumbing and hardware materials for over 50 years in Phoenix, Casa Grande, Tucson, Las Vegas, and Dallas markets. We are a family-owned Belgium company that is passionate about the success of our customers and our team.
Job Summary: The Training Specialist assesses, develops and implements effective department and company-wide training programs to enhance employee skills and job performance.
The Training Specialist reports to the Head of Human Resources and drives VMTS training initiatives as part of the HR team. The Specialist works closely with the VP of Sales and the Sales team to develop training programs that support employees, benefit our customers and positively impact continued business growth.
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities
Needs Assessment
  • Work with Human Resources to identify training needs for all employees (i.e. sexual harassment training, new employee orientation, communication skills)
  • Evaluate training needs for the store employees:
    • Skill-building/milestone proficiency and tracking
    • Product identification (i.e., short codes, t-codes, bar codes, couplings, and galvanized parts)
    • Customer service
    • Software (Learning Management, Excel, SAP is desirable), Paycom
  • Build ongoing training and development initiatives for the sales organization.
  • Assess supervisory and leadership development training priorities

Research, Develop and Implement Training/Tools
  • Collaborate with IT on training software or other software instruction needs.
  • Facilitate and deliver cost effective and engaging training and development programs
  • Develop and implement learning strategies, programs and tools such as:
    • e-learning courses, workshops, on demand courses, videos
    • coaching, job-shadowing, online training, individual development plans

Measure Results
  • Develop metrics to assess impact and application of learning on business performance and employee development and retention
  • Assess success of development plans and help employees apply learning

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Instructional Design coursework, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3-4 years of experience in a training role; Human Resources or Sales training is a plus
  • Understanding of instructional design and learning principles
  • Retail or wholesale training experience is desirable; knowledge of plumbing is a plus
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Excel; Adobe Creative Cloud; Learning Management Technology; experience with Paycom and SAP a plus
  • Regular local travel in greater Phoenix/Tucson area; occasional travel to NV/TX stores

  • Proficient in facilitation, listening, written and verbal communication skills, and ability to convey technical content in a clear/understandable manner
  • Knowledge of traditional and modern training methods, tools, and techniques

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Regular computer usage throughout the day, ability to sit for lengthy periods of time
  • Stand and walk for periods of time up to two hours or more in an 8-hour day
  • Lift/push/pull/carry various objects of up to 35 lbs. on occasion
  • Talk, see, and hear to interact with leadership, staff and associates
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Ability to drive and have reliable transportation is essential for this position due to the local travel requirements
