Job Responsibilities and Requirements

The National Client Executive is accountable for all aspects of the customer experience with assigned national clients as well as managing and owning the overall client relationship. As the lead of a team of professionals, they will deliver on our promises, fully leverage the power of our service capabilities to exceed expectations and problem solve for custom client needs. They will review the financial metrics, retention and growth of the assigned block. The National Client Executive will serve as a subject matter expert to our clients regarding Disability, Life, FML, State Leaves, and Company Leaves (Paid and Unpaid) as well as ADA. Typical group size is 2000+ lives.

Retention/Cross selling

  • Drives the client renewal strategy for premier client base, with input from sales and/or practice leaders.

  • Provides comprehensive service and directly assists in profitably growing the company's top consulting base.

  • Leads finalist meetings typically with large teams and can include navigating complex solution discussions.

  • Proactively identifies and executes cross sell opportunities (additional lines of business).

  • Manages merger and divesture activities with clients to ensure smooth transitions.

  • Manages and negotiates complex performance guarantees.

  • Drives client conversations around potential downstream effects of certain changes to plan.

  • Achieves or exceeds assigned metrics (such as service, client persistency, implementations and customer satisfaction).

Strategy Development

  • Develops an effective, efficient strategy and workflow for growing the existing book of business of the company's top clients.

  • Develops and manages annual client strategies to ensure persistency and profitable growth.

  • Interprets and delivers client data in relationship to benchmark data.

  • Provides suggested strategies for the client's future based on client data and industry trends. Typically, these strategies require a high level of customization.

  • Works closely with the Regional Sales Office, Implementation Manager, and internal support resources in order to develop an effective and efficient strategy and workflow for new and existing business.

Process & Relationship Management

  • Proven ability to manage high level relationships with client and broker decision-makers.

  • Achieves or exceeds assigned metrics for client persistency, new customer/product implementations, and customer satisfaction.

  • Works effectively with all functional departments to implement new business and prepares for renewal situations.

  • Performs deep analysis of raw data to identify trends and create solutions. Develops ad-hoc and customized reporting for top brokers and clients.

  • Provides support to clients for system (HRIS, payroll, vendor) changes. This support typically entails a high level of complexity.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Related Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS/BA) - Business or related

  • 5+ years of group insurance experience servicing clients/ client management

  • Group Life and Health License(s) required

  • Knowledge of MS Office applications required including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Self-motivated with the ability and manage own work.

  • Consistently champions company and department vision and goals; drives client adherence to initiatives.

  • Excellent presentation and written/verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to multi-task, manage tight deadlines

  • Demonstrates -strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • High level of customer service orientation.

  • Ability to manage responsibilities with limited supervision, work autonomously

  • Ability to prioritize daily responsibilities by readily discerning the urgent needs, escalates as needed.

  • Experience in negotiating complex contracts and agreements.

  • Highly Adaptable with an ability to learn and grow in an ever changing environment

  • At least 3 years of group insurance experience, absence management, disability, leave and life insurance. As well as experience in client management, sales or underwriting


The expected hiring range for this position is $101,620.00 - $135,650.00 annually for work performed in the primary location (Schaumburg, IL). This expected hiring range covers only base pay and excludes any other compensation components such as commissions or incentive awards. The successful candidate's starting base pay will be based on several factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.


Work location may be flexible if approved by the Company.
