Job description

Overview:

Provides highly complex analytical, operational, and/or technical support at the business/department level within Global Capital Markets.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop and produce complex ad-hoc and automated departmental reports and spreadsheets, including but not limited to, project or product strategy analysis, profitability, historical reporting, work flow and financial analysis in support of the Global Capital Markets business.
  • Research and gather business and financial information regarding business results to support these activities. Complete moderately complex analyses to support business decisions. Provide feedback to management regarding results and make recommendations on findings to management.
  • Demonstrate a thorough and expert understanding of the Global Capital Markets business and its functions, processes and operations. Remain current on business and market trends that may affect the business/department.
  • Manage the planning, developing and implementing of various projects and initiatives within Global Capital Markets to achieve short and long-term business objectives. Develop project plans ensuring activities to be completed, estimated time frame and effort and other pertinent information are covered. Manage daily project activities.
  • May be involved in setting policy or developing and overseeing the implementation of procedures or controls related to compliance requirements within the overall business processes, directly or indirectly monitoring functions that, on a daily basis, ensure procedures and controls are functioning as designed, developing training for business line personnel regarding procedures and controls designed to ensure compliance with laws and/or regulations, completing or overseeing embedded compliance self-testing and/or managing examinations or audits involving regulatory matters and any resultant corrective actions.
  • Manage budget, profitability and other business reporting. Analyze variances and report to management. Make recommendations on variances and methods to increase efficiency, lower costs, etc. Implement recommendations upon management approval.
  • Define and participate in achievement of short and long-term business objectives.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:

The position requires substantial interaction with internal and external contacts to obtain pertinent information and serves as liaison between the department and other business units on various projects.

The jobholder works independently under very limited supervision as well as a member or a project leader of a project team. The position serves as resource for less experienced employees.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years' experience in field, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years' experience in the field

Highly skilled proficiency in use of pertinent spreadsheets, graphing and presentation software

Working knowledge of financial models

Excellent knowledge of pertinent operating systems

Education and Experience Preferred:

Advanced degree

Minimum of 4 years' experience in the field

Minimum of 4 years' banking or other relevant industry experience

Ability to work independently and function as a member of a project team

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent analytical ability

Creative problem-solving skills

Ability to function as a project leader
