What Does an Implementation Engineer Do?

As an implementation engineer, your duties are to assist the project manager to deploy network, hardware, and software solutions for a company or institution. You participate in all phases of the design, test, and implementation process, helping to modify the project scope, identify and troubleshoot problems with implementation or efficiency, perform data analysis to assess what types of modifications need to occur, and determine how well the new implementations are working after the project is complete. Your responsibilities are also to train end users on how to use new systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Implementation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Implementation Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science or engineering, strong problem-solving abilities, and experience with software deployment and integration. Familiarity with technical tools such as configuration management systems, APIs, scripting languages, and knowledge of platforms like Salesforce or SAP is often required. Excellent communication, project management, and customer service skills help you effectively coordinate with clients and internal teams. These skills ensure smooth product rollouts, high customer satisfaction, and the successful adaptation of solutions to client environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Implementation Engineers when integrating new software solutions for clients?

Implementation Engineers often encounter challenges such as aligning client expectations with technical realities, managing multiple project timelines, and adapting to varied IT environments. They must ensure seamless integration with existing client systems while minimizing disruption to daily operations. Effective communication and proactive problem-solving are key, as the role frequently involves collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to address unforeseen issues and ensure successful deployment.

Job description

SUMMARY
MedEvolve's Implementation team is seeking a Senior Implementation Project Manager to lead our most complex enterprise and mid-market client deployments. This is a senior-level role for an experienced implementation leader who can own end-to-end delivery of MedEvolve's practice management system, RCM workflow automation, and analytics platform from contract execution through post-go-live optimization.
You will serve as the primary client-facing leader during implementation, partnering with CFOs, practice administrators, IT teams, and billing directors while coordinating internally across Implementation, Integration, Engineering, Product, and Customer Success. Beyond delivery, you will help shape how MedEvolve implements - building scalable processes, mentoring junior project managers, and contributing to repeatable playbooks that reduce implementation cycle times and improve client outcomes.
The ideal candidate thrives in healthcare technology environments, brings deep understanding of revenue cycle operations and practice management workflows, and has a proven track record managing complex, multi-stakeholder SaaS implementations in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Implementation & Project Leadership
  • Lead the full implementation lifecycle for enterprise and complex mid-market clients, from contract execution through go-live and post-implementation optimization.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, milestones, deliverables, and dependencies.
  • Manage 8-12 concurrent implementations while maintaining high quality, on-time delivery, and client satisfaction.
  • Proactively identify project risks and execute mitigation strategies, adjusting scope and timeline as needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for clients during implementation and onboarding.
  • Manage go-live activities including on-site support, issue escalation, stabilization, and smooth handoff to Customer Success.
Client Engagement & Stakeholder Alignment
  • Build strong relationships with executive and operational stakeholders across clinical, financial, and IT teams.
  • Conduct discovery sessions to document current workflows, system requirements, and integration specifications.
  • Lead onboarding sessions, workflow reviews, and Super User / end user training across multiple departments and locations.
  • Communicate effectively with executive audiences, translating technical requirements into operational workflows and business outcomes.
  • Partner with Customer Success to align on client pain points, business goals, and success metrics that drive value realization.
Cross-Functional & Technical Collaboration
  • Coordinate technical requirements including database setup, data conversion, interface configuration, and system integration.
  • Partner with Integration Engineers and Engineering teams on technical setup, testing, validation, and resolution of complex implementation challenges.
  • Surface client feedback to Product teams and recommend product enhancements informed by field experience.
  • Coordinate internal resources and facilitate alignment across Implementation, Sales, Support, and Customer Success.
Process Improvement & Mentorship
  • Identify inefficiencies, risks, and failure points in current implementation workflows and drive standardization.
  • Contribute to repeatable implementation playbooks, templates, training materials, and best practices.
  • Continuously evaluate opportunities to reduce implementation cycle times and improve client experience.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to Junior and entry-level Implementation Project Managers.
  • Serve as an escalation point and subject matter expert for less experienced team members.
Reporting & Governance
  • Provide regular implementation status updates to leadership and stakeholders, including project health, risks, and remediation plans.
  • Track key implementation metrics, timelines, risks, and resource utilization.
  • Maintain thorough project documentation, including workflows, technical requirements, and client configurations.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 7+ years of project management experience, including SaaS implementations.

  • 2+ years of experience working with revenue cycle management technology.
  • Proven track record managing complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise implementations on time and within scope.

PREFERRED / BONUS
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Previous experience leading practice management system conversions.
  • Experience with HubSpot, Arrows, Asana or similar implementation / project management platforms.
