We are currently seeking a Tax and Asset Accounting Director to be part of our team in Ann Arbor, MI.
Position Responsibilities:
The Tax and Asset Accounting Director will be responsible for the tax functions of the US based Wacker entities. This includes, in particular, responsibility for tax compliance and planning (federal, state, and local), tax accounting under IFRS standards and interaction with local auditors for the annual financial audit and half year review, managing tax audits and tax agreements regarding related party tax audit adjustments (including APA requests), applying for, negotiating, and reporting related to tax incentives (federal as well as state & local), property tax compliance (primarily personal property). The position will work closely with respective functions of the ultimate parent company and other financial functions within the company (e.g. accounting, controlling, local management). In addition, this role will be responsible for managing co-sourcing arrangements for direct tax return preparation as well as personal property tax return compliance.
This individual will function as a primary financial liaison with the CFO and CEO for the US group companies.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the tax and asset accounting teams to ensure the effective use of time and available resources.
  • Review of and continuous improvement of tax workpapers to support direct and indirect tax compliance processes as well as quarterly tax provision
  • Oversight and management of tax functions: Tax structuring; Tax returns; Tax incentives; and Tax accounting. Review/approval of all filings, tax payments, etc.
  • Alignment with global tax, accounting and treasury departments; including IFRS local GAAP and tax law requirements in the U.S., including review of new tax legislation, filing requirements, etc.
  • Management of Asset Accounting team, assisting with technical issues as needed, including property tax compliance
  • Department Administration and planning, budgeting, etc.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or other business-related field. MBA or MST preferred, as well as CPA.
  • 7 - 10 years as a manager of others. Experience in an industrial setting responsible for tax planning and compliance, tax accounting, as well as credits & incentives.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Requires knowledge and managerial experience in US Tax (federal and state & local), computerized SAP accounting systems, Tax accounting (IAS 12)
  • Requires knowledge in general accounting (IFRS preferred), including asset accounting and lease accounting (IFRS 16)
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, ability to get along and interface with associated Corporate personnel and balance other business considerations
  • Well-developed skills to lead and manage a small team
