IAM Interns often encounter challenges understanding complex access control frameworks and navigating multiple identity management tools used across large organizations. Balancing security requirements with user convenience can require careful analysis and communication with both IT and business teams. What are IAM Interns?

IAM Interns are students or early-career professionals who assist with Identity and Access Management (IAM) within an organization. Their responsibilities often include helping manage user accounts, permissions, and security protocols to ensure that only authorized individuals have access to sensitive systems and data. IAM Interns typically work under the supervision of IT or security teams, gaining hands-on experience with access control tools, authentication systems, and compliance processes. This role is ideal for those interested in cybersecurity, IT administration, or related fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IAM Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IAM (Identity and Access Management) Intern, you need a foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles, networking, and access control concepts, often supported by coursework in computer science or information technology. You'll work closely with Security, Engineering, and Operations to enforce strong access controls, maintain compliance with security frameworks, and improve the systems and workflows that support how Inkit operates. This is a great role for someone who enjoys building secure foundations, managing critical infrastructure, and bringing structure and reliability to a fast-moving environment.
What You'll Do

• Implement and maintain MFA, conditional access, and identity governance policies
Security & Compliance

• Conduct periodic access reviews
• Respond to and support security incidents related to identity and access
• Assist leadership with special projects related to internal operations, process improvement, and organizational efficiency

• Document system configurations, procedures, and security policies
What We're Looking For
Required

• Strong understanding of SSO, SAML, and OAuth
• Experience implementing MFA and conditional access policies
• Strong attention to detail and security-first mindset
• Ability to manage multiple systems and priorities effectively
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
Bonus
• Certifications such as Security+

• Experience with endpoint management / MDM solutions
• Experience with SIEM tools and log analysis
Why This Role Matters
As Inkit continues to scale across both government and commercial environments, maintaining strong security and access controls is critical to protecting our systems, customers, and data.
This role is foundational to ensuring that the right people have the right access at the right time while minimizing risk and maintaining compliance.
