As a human service technician, your job is to help adults with disabilities receive the services for which they qualify. To accomplish this, you may look after children while their parents apply for benefits, provide transportation for clients, interact with in-home support service providers, and help clients get housing through a residential program. You also assist families who need supervision during visits and accompany social workers and protective services workers with field activities. You may also need to update case records, consult therapists to understand the best way to support a client, retrieve files, and perform any other miscellaneous tasks your office assigns. Human service technicians usually work in government service centers.
