The duties of a social and human services assistant are to provide support and information about aid and benefits for clients and members of a community. As an assistant, you perform these functions under the supervision of a lead social worker or other licensed professional. Your responsibilities may include an initial assessment of a client, and providing suggestions about a treatment plan or referral to relevant programs or services. In an assistant position, you may also help clients with paperwork and research public and nonprofit programs to assess your clients’ eligibility for aid.
