About the Job
General Summary of Position
This internship is an opportunity to learn about healthcare governance, management, finance, organizational practices, and the laws and regulations related to the healthcare industry. The intern will be given exposure to departmental operations and/or hospital rotations and projects. They will carry out projects that are customized to the intern's primary program of study and the needs of the mentors and the departments. Each intern will have one mentor who will oversee and direct the internship.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively seek opportunities to continuously improve systems and processes.
  • Attends Leadership and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Completes special projects as designated by Executive or Hospital Leadership team member. Presents project findings and internship experience to appropriate leadership team.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in the division in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Responds to requests for information and assistance in timely manner.
  • Engages in the Mission and Vision of MedStar Health while enhancing interpersonal skills and advancing their professional development.

Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED and Current enrollment in accredited college or university required
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and entering their senior year of their undergraduate program or enrolled in a graduate degree program required

Experience
  • Previous experience within the healthcare industry preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • No special certification registration or license required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team as well as an independent contributor.
  • Initiative and follow-up skills high attention to details adherence to deadlines and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate complex information to team and to internal clientele.
