Job Title: Support Staff - Barback, Busser, Food Runner Job Type: Part Time /Non-Exempt

Location: Brew Pub - 91 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801

Reports to: GM/MOD

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Our Support Staff position is one of many facets! We'll train you in all three of these roles - Barback, Busser, and Food Runner. Each one plays such an important role in our Brew Pub's operations! This role is a great way to get your foot in the door and learn the inner workings of our restaurant if you have your sights set on a serving or bartending position with us in the future. Keep reading to find out more about the expectations of this position and if it could be just right for you!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Bar Back:

  • Removes plates, utensils, and glassware from bar as needed
  • Brings bus tub to dish pit and sorts appropriately
  • Sweeps behind bar as needed
  • Wipes off bar after guests leave and as needed with either murphy's oil or sanitizer
  • Keeps all surfaces behind bar clean
  • Sprays down floor mats, bar mats, and drains
  • Cleans glassware and restocks, always keeping bartenders well-supplied with glassware
  • Assists bartenders as needed
  • Greets guests with menus if bartender is busy
  • Loads, runs, and unloads bar dishwasher
  • Changes kegs
  • Carries trash, recycling, and linen bag
  • Empties broken glass bucket
  • Restocks coolers and shelves behind bar
  • Performs closing duties

Busser:

  • Keeps a roaming eye on the floor so they can be ready to bus a table once the guests have left
  • Uses bus tubs as needed to help efficiently bus tables
  • Takes plates, glassware, and other dishes to the dish pit
  • Properly organizes trash, compost, and recycling into their respective receptacles
  • Keeps clean linens and sanitizer spray available to wipe down tables and re-set them for service
  • Sweeps under tables as needed
  • Keeps dish pit organized when dropping off dishes and respects dishwashers' space

Food Runner:

  • Stands behind the expeditor in the kitchen ready to run food as it comes into the window
  • Memorizes table and seat numbers to efficiently drop food where it goes without confusion
  • Carries food on trays down the stairs to the downstairs bar
  • Asks guests if anything else is needed before returning to the expo line

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a kitchen environment with fluctuations in temperature and conditions (heat, cold, humidity) for an extended period of time.
