TITLE/CLASSIFICATION: Mechanic A
HOURS: 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday- Friday
THIS POSTING WILL ALSO BE USED TO FILL ADDITIONAL VACANCIES IN THE SAME JOB CLASSIFICATION AND WORK LOCATION THAT MAY ARISE DURING THE SELECTION PROCESS
QUALIFICATIONS/DUTIES:
Operate, inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair in a safe manner all facilities equipment and systems which include: heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration equipment; mechanical equipment, i.e., motors, pumps, mechanical seals, valves, dampers, condensers, compressors; electrical equipment, i.e., generators, motors, transformers, breakers, regulators, relays, instrumentation, cables, conduit, elevators, overhead cranes, public address systems, etc. Work on and/or near energized facilities systems and motor control circuits to do necessary electrical and mechanical functions.
Discriminate as to circuits and equipment to be cleared in order to complete work in a safe manner.
Perform extensive facility renovation/construction activities such as: installation of dropped ceilings and associated lighting systems; layout and installation of various partition systems (metal and modular partition, metal and wood studs with gypsum board, etc.); installation of door bucks; hanging doors; installation of door hardware and locks; layout and fabrication of cabinets; installation of various types of floors; etc.
Other duties performed will include water testing and chemical treatment, asbestos removal, insulation of piping, maintenance of sprinkler systems, installation of ductwork, balancing of air distribution systems and operation of heavy equipment.
Key Accountabilities
KNOWLEDGE & TRAINING:
Qualified applicants must pass the Mechanic "A" Skills Assessment Test and obtain and maintain all required certificates/ licenses to perform job functions ( i.e. CFC, Confined Space, Asbestos Abatement, etc.).
Must have strong math skills required for arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages. Must have thorough knowledge of " RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION" as it applies to all electrical, steam, fuel, water, etc., systems.
Selection will be made based on demonstrated ability of applicant to pass written and practical examinations
Valid Driver's License required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy

EXPERIENCE:
Four years' experience in this or related work.
NOTE:
In addition to possessing the qualifications for this vacancy, employees selected will be expected to work overtime in accordance with departmental requirements and to participate in the Company's Emergency Restoration Program as may be required.
