JOB SUMMARY:
The Production Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on industrial sewing machines and other production equipment in a military garment manufacturing operation. This position supports production efficiency, equipment reliability, product quality, and maximum uptime in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role that provides direct support to the production floor.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and basic electrical issues on industrial sewing and production equipment
  • Maintain and repair industrial sewing equipment, including:
    • Juki (single-needle, multi-needle, and programmable machines)
    • Brother industrial machines
    • Pfaff equipment
    • Pegasus overlock and specialty machines
    • Kansai Special multi-needle systems
  • Maintain machines ranging from single-needle lockstitch through 5-needle and programmable equipment
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance according to established PM schedules
  • Adjust timing, feed mechanisms, loopers, tension systems, and drive components
  • Support production during machine setups and changeovers
  • Respond quickly to production floor service calls to minimize downtime
  • Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions or improvements
  • Maintain organized maintenance work area and tool control

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of industrial sewing machine repair experience preferred
  • Experience in apparel or textile manufacturing preferred
  • Industrial maintenance technician experienced working with mechanical systems involving motors, timing systems, cams, linkages, or gear assemblies

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience maintaining preventive maintenance schedules
  • Ability to troubleshoot industrial equipment
  • Ability to read parts diagrams and technical manuals
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required; must be able to communicate effectively on the production floor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to conduct repetitive motions on a daily basis.
