Job description

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia's public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and hospital services.

The main office for DBHDD is located in downtown Atlanta.  

This position is located at:  Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta (GRHA)

Located on 174 Acres in DeKalb County, Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta operates 300 licensed, accredited inpatient beds in three major program areas: Adult Mental Health, Forensic Services, and Developmental Disabilities. In addition, GRH/Atlanta also offers inpatient and outpatient Dental Services.

Job Description

Job Title:  Forensic Psychologist - Hourly (PRN) - GRHA

Pay Grade:  TPW

Job Summary:

This is temporary or hourly paid work performing professional health care services. Positions in this job are established for less than 9 months or scheduled for less than 30 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits if the position status is temporary (i.e., SCOA 513). Positions in this job are established for greater than 9 months and scheduled for greater than 30 hours per week if the position status is permanent labor (i.e., SCOA 512). Normally permanent labor positions are eligible for Health Insurance benefits.

The part-time Psychologist duties will include:

  • Support the Psychology Department's completion of essential clinical and assessment duties by providing multi-unit coverage for psychologist duties.
  • Responsible for risk assessment and other forensic reports.
  • Group and individual therapy services are provided as well as multi-unit coverage for psychologist duties.
  • Assist with supervision of psychology interns and post-docs.
  • Serve as a backup for the weekend psychologist group therapist.
  • Support audits as directed by the Psychology Chief.

FOR THIS TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT, STATE LAW REQUIRES A NATIONAL AND STATE BACKGROUND CHECK AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT. 

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in psychology (Required)
  • Licensed Psychologist in the State of Georgia (required)
  • Experience working in an inpatient setting/ with the SMI population

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with and serving psychiatric patients and individuals in an inpatient setting with severe mental illnesses (SMI) population (preferred)
  • Experience providing group therapy, and experience on an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience providing clinical or administrative supervision
  • Experience with auditing clinical services
  • Occasional weekend availability (preferred)
