The Ardsley School District is seeking a committed and knowledgeable individual to serve as Varsity Football Assistant Coach. This position is ideal for a coach who is passionate about teaching the game, supporting student-athlete development, and contributing to a cohesive and competitive football program.
The Assistant Coach plays a vital role in supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of the program, including instruction, supervision, and program culture. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, a willingness to collaborate, and a commitment to providing a positive and educational experience for student-athletes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong knowledge of football fundamentals, techniques, and positional play
  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or youth level preferred
  • Ability to effectively teach and connect with student-athletes
  • Willingness to learn and grow within an established program structure
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to sportsmanship and student-athlete development
  • Interested candidates should possess or be willing to obtain the necessary coaching certification requirements from NYSED.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in implementing the vision and daily operations of the football program. This includes assisting with practices, games, player development, and supervision. The role requires flexibility, collaboration, and a team-first mindset to ensure consistency across the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction & Player Development
  • Assist in planning and conducting practices, drills, and skill development sessions
  • Provide instruction specific to assigned position group(s)
  • Reinforce team systems, terminology, and expectations established by the Head Coach

Team Support & Supervision
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team activities
  • Assist with game-day responsibilities including setup, breakdown, and sideline organization
  • Support the Head Coach in maintaining a structured and disciplined team environment

Program Alignment
  • Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and staff to ensure consistency in coaching philosophy and player development
  • Support program goals across all levels when applicable

Student-Athlete Experience
  • Serve as a positive role model and promote sportsmanship, accountability, and teamwork
  • Support monitoring of student-athlete academic progress and behavior

Operations & Compliance
  • Adhere to all district policies and regulations set by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA)
  • Follow all procedures related to injuries, medical protocols, and emergency situations

Communication
  • Maintain professional communication with coaching staff, student-athletes, and families as appropriate
  • Support the overall mission and initiatives of the athletic department
