Job description

Join Our Team as a Housekeeping Associate at HI Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel

HI USA is looking for a Housekeeping Associate to help keep our iconic Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel clean, welcoming, and guest-ready. This unique oceanfront property features 59 beds across four buildings and serves approximately 13,500 educational and recreational travelers annually.

If you're someone who enjoys working independently in a peaceful coastal setting and takes pride in creating a clean, comfortable environment for travelers, this could be the perfect fit.

This position does not provide accommodation.

Position Details
Type: Part-time, 14 hours/week, Saturday and Sunday

Role Objectives & Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain four hostel buildings, including daily tasks and periodic deep cleaning

  • Process, wash, fold, and stock laundry

  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of hostel grounds and gardens

  • Perform routine hot tub maintenance

  • Restock supplies and maintain housekeeping inventory

  • Provide on-call assistance in emergencies while on the hostel premises

  • Support hostel safety and security for guests and their belongings

  • Represent HI USA, California State Parks, and the US Coast Guard positively to guests, callers, and the general public

  • Assist with light building maintenance and other duties as assigned by the Hostel Manager or Director of Hostel Operations

Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in housekeeping or hospitality preferred

  • Customer service experience and comfort working with the public

  • Ability to work independently and stay organized without direct supervision

  • Flexible schedule, including availability for weekends and holidays

  • Basic computer skills a plus

  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred

  • Previous hostelling experience a plus

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and arms, talk, and hear

  • Occasionally required to climb or balance

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds

  • Visual requirements include close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Noise level is typically moderate
