Job description

University of Iowa Health Care - Medical Center North Liberty department of Safety and Security is seeking a Hospital Security Officer Supervisor to provide administrative supervision for hospital security officers, clerks, and temporary staff. This position will collaborate with dispatch, fire safety, nursing services, University police, and all other key stakeholders to enhance safety and security within UI Health Care. This Hospital Security Officer Supervisor will support the Manager to ensure their security staff maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff with the buildings and on the ground of Medical Center North Liberty.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily Safety and Security operations to maintain a safe and secure environment.

  • Assist in managing, coordinating, and scheduling the Safety and Security team.

  • Assist in hiring, development, and training of new hires.

  • Assist in managing the performance and providing support for Safety and Security staff.

  • Administratively supervises Hospital Security Officers, Clerks, and temporary staff.

  • Assigns work and provide support for Safety and Security staff.

  • Clearly communicate expectations and provide direction for your shift.

  • Communicate with Security Supervisor and Manager regarding daily operations.

  •  Perform and sign performance appraisal for hospital security officers

  • Manage the performance of security staff, including coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline.

  • Reviews needs for hospital security by patrolling the medical complex.

  •  Meeting with representatives of various hospital departments.

  • Reading and approving written reports prepared by security officers.

  • Reviewing service requests.

  • Working with various contractors, and as necessary meeting with representatives from the University Department of Public Safety.

  • Approve payroll, time off requests, overtime, and other leaves.

  • Prepares various administrative reports including those for payroll, overtime and part-time reports, monthly theft reports, and proposed revisions to general procedure and operations manual.

  • Participate in work groups as needed including community service and/or community relations.

  • Conducts investigations and writes reports as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule: 100%
Hourly: $23.32 to commensurate
Hours: Monday-Friday 3pm-11:30pm, weekend coverage depending on operational needs

Minimum Eligibility Requirement:

  • Five years' experience in security or law enforcement work, at least three years of which is at least comparable to the work of the Hospital Security Officer.

  • Ability to obtain the Supervisor certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.

Special Qualification:

  • Possession of appropriate driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
