Job description

Department: Mental Health Security Officer
Shift: Day
Working Hours: 6a-6p
Summary:
A Mental Health Security Officer receives specialized training in various clinical aspects of working with mentally ill patients. MHSO provides safety and security to patients, health care workers, and the unit by responding to situations to de-escalate crisis situations. Protects and maintains a secure environment by enforcing rules and regulations to provide for the safety of personnel, patients, visitors, and the property. Protect staff, patients, and property by intervening with physical intervention if patient begins to act out and/or present danger to staff, patients, or property. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team to assess the functional abilities, impairments, and needs of each patient. Works under the direction of licensed nursing staff, performing various duties such as (but not limited to): 1:1 observation, inventory of patient belongings, assistance in applying restraints, checking rooms and patients for contraband, searching new admissions, dressing them out, reporting any change in patient's condition.
Other information:
High school graduate or GED required. Must be able to complete the prescribed de-escalation training provided by Baptist Health to include all physical check offs of required training. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to learn and apply new healthcare related skills. Ability to collaborate with the health care team effectively and do so consistently. Ability to engage people at the appropriate level for their wellness and cognition. Ability to problem-solve. Ability to be proactive in anticipating the patient's needs. CPR, skills training, and de-escalating training.
This job will be authorized 80.00 hours bi-weekly.
