Job description

JOB SUMMARY AND SCOPE
The Security Department follows Standard Operating Guidelines to accomplish the safety and security of all patients, visitors and employees at Down East Community & Calais Community Hospital. Security remains vigilant in identifying security and safety issues that arise, logging any issues in an incident report to be reviewed by the Security Supervisor. Security follows specific rounds, checking for unlocked doors and anything out of the ordinary. Security assists all departments with patient monitoring, lift assists, patient restraints and any other duty that the department feels is in direct association with the security and safety of Down East Community Hospital or Calais Community Hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNTIONS
  • Because of our attention to quality customer service, Security will provide a safe and secure environment for all persons needing medical attention, knowing that security measures have been put in place for their safety and the safety of this organization.
  • The Security officer must be able to communicate well, to handle difficult patients, visitors or large groups of people in a calm but assertive manner.
  • Good health and ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Must be flexible to work as needed including weekends and holidays
  • Shall wear uniform as specified
  • Seeks out needed information by staying informed and involved by attending meetings, reading memos, policies, meeting minutes, newsletters, email and other appropriate information in a timely manner
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality, including observing appropriate break times and extending a scheduled shift when necessary to meet patient demands
  • Performs duties in a safe manner, in compliance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Complies with the Code of Conduct and all appropriate policies and procedures
  • Other duties, as assigned, that are relevant to the position and department
  • Take part in Hospital approved de-escalation training.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduate, trade school graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to routinely use maintenance products and solutions
  • Must be able to follow instructions both written and verbal
  • Adapts well to sudden changes
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Communicates non-routine items/issues to the Security Supervisor
  • Conduct routine rounds of the building
  • Assist in monitoring patients as needed
  • Completes work order assignments as time allows
  • Maintains courteous and respectful manner with other departments
  • Always displays a positive and professional attitude
  • Must be willing to cover shifts at other job sites when necessary

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT
Active: Often lifts to 50 pounds independently. Frequently pushes/pulls 100 pounds. Stands or walks most of the time.
EXPOSURE RISK
Exposure Category II: Employee reasonably expected to be at some risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
  • Maintains current knowledge of the hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program.
  • Collaborates with management to improve the effectiveness of the department through the Quality Improvement plans and processes.
  • Participates in the departmental and hospital-wide Quality Improvement activities as directed by the manager.

COMPLIANCE
  • Adheres to the federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
  • Adheres to the Compliance Program policies and procedures of Down East Community & Calais Community Hospital.
  • Adheres to all Privacy and Security policies and procedures of Down East Community & Calais Community Hospital.
  • Communicates any concern related to compliance issues to manager of department or Compliance Officer.
  • Communicates any concern related to confidentiality issues to the Privacy Officer.
