Job description

Position: Hospital Controller
Employment Type: Full-Time (rotating weekends)
Compensation: $100,000 – $150,000 plus incentive bonus of 17.5%
 
FocusPoint, a talent solutions firm, is partnering with a leading healthcare organization in the Richmond area to recruit a skilled Controller. This role offers the opportunity to oversee financial operations in a dynamic, high-volume environment while contributing to the organization’s mission of delivering exceptional care.

The Controller will:

  • Supervise and mentor the Assistant Controller and accounting staff.
  • Organize departmental functions, assign responsibilities, and monitor activities to ensure timely completion in alignment with corporate policies.
  • Establish productivity goals and foster an environment of open communication across the department and with senior leadership.
  • Facilitate completion of budgets, cost reports, and ad hoc financial reporting under the direction of senior finance executives.
  • Prepare and coordinate internal and external audits.
  • Oversee timely month-end close processes and ensure accuracy of general ledger reconciliations.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 requirements and internal documentation standards.
  • Safeguard the accuracy of the balance sheet and ensure reconciliations and attestations are completed on schedule.
  • Select, train, and evaluate accounting personnel to ensure technical expertise and quality service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance (preferred)
  • Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience (required)
  • Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience with at least 1–2 years supervising accountants in a healthcare setting (required)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential (preferred)
