Job description

SL Ranch in Stevensville is seeking a full time ranch hand to perform a variety of duties related to the production of hay and cattle. NO HOUSING PROVIDED!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repairs and maintenance of equipment, fences, ditches, headgates and pipes.
  • Crop Management - identify irrigation needs for hay crops. Notify supervisor when hay is ready for harvest
  • Operate haying equipment, move and set irrigation pipes and guns. Identify and insure all pastures are sufficiently watered
  • Daily feeding of livestock
  • Care of chickens
  • Snow plowing, mowing, weed eating as necessary and directed
  • Calving-feeding, tagging, vaccinations, general doctoring as needed
  • Daily cleaning of dog kennels
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Self starter, highly motivated
  • Ability to work long hours
  • Must be proficient in the safe operation of all equipment...haying, loaders, tractors, 4 wheeler, vehicles, power tools, chainsaw, etc
  • Time management - ability to manage one's own time
  • Must be reliable, responsible and dependable
  • Proficient on horseback and handling of horses and cattle
  • Ability to identify sickness and/or lameness in horses and cattle
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs
  • Some framing knowledge a plus
  • Roping ability a plus
  • Clean driving record and background and drug test required

Most duties are performed outdoors and entail exposure to extreme heat, cold, rain, and other environmental conditions

Summer irrigation schedule is Mon-Sat and calving schedule is 7 days a week
