Precision Horizontal Boring Mill Machinist

Location: Northeast Houston (77044)

Pay: $25 - $32

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Precision Horizontal Boring Mill Machinist with experience operating Wotan Horizontal Boring Mills, including models B-1305, B-105M, B-1005, and/or 340RT. This position is responsible for setting up and machining complex, high-value components to extremely tight tolerances. The ideal candidate brings strong blueprint-reading and GD&T knowledge, advanced inspection skills, and the ability to independently align, indicate, machine, and verify precision parts where every thousandth matters.

Responsibilities

  • Independently set up, align, and operate horizontal boring mill equipment for precision-machined components
  • Machine parts to tight tolerances, including bore locations, diameters, flatness, perpendicularity, and true position requirements
  • Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, inspection reports, and work instructions
  • Determine machining strategy, work holding methods, tooling, cutting parameters, and setup sequence
  • Perform precision boring, milling, drilling, facing, and related machining operations
  • Verify part quality throughout the machining process using calibrated precision measuring equipment
  • Use micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, depth gauges, and other inspection tools to confirm dimensions
  • Make accurate machine adjustments and offsets to maintain repeatability and meet print specifications
  • Identify tooling, setup, material, or program issues before they become expensive scrap
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of horizontal boring mill experience in a precision-machining environment
  • Proven ability to hold very tight tolerances, ideally within ±.001 or tighter depending on part requirements
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, datum structures, alignment, concentricity, perpendicularity, and positional tolerancing
  • Experience setting up and machining complex, high-value, low-volume, or large-scale components
  • Advanced blueprint-reading and precision inspection skills
  • Ability to work independently, troubleshoot problems, and document inspection results accurately
  • High attention to detail, strong math skills, and a quality-first mindset
